Feature Requests

For feature requests, the process is:
  • Skim this stickied thread before posting a feature idea in case it's already been requested
  • Post new requests and ideas here in this stickied thread
  • We discuss
  • If the idea has legs, @Rardian? approves and adds to Jira backlog
  • Backlog prioritization and bi-weekly sprint planning process take effect

Some of the requests that have come in:

Make url links a different color than tags. It's too hard to determine what is a URL and what is a tag and they SHOULD be different as they behave differently.

A calendar-style view of log entries, making use of the calendar tag to place log entries into the correct dates.

Make url links a different color than tags. It's too hard to determine what is a URL and what is a tag and they SHOULD be different as they behave differently.

Currently, 'Copy Entry' copies over the timestamp of the original entry. This is, to my mind, undesirable, as it means that entries based on a template sort incorrectly. It would make more sense for the timestamp of the new entry to be the current date/time.

To have log entries span multiple campaign logs for shared universe entries (places / spells / glossary / etc.)

Allow the sorting from "Go to tag listing", allow a secondary filter...like finding X in Y's tag listing. So far, I've been using the search bar, but refining the list would be better.

Aliases for tags. The ability to link multiple tags to that they reference the same body of entries. This would be useful for synonyms, pseudonyms, secret organizations, identity reveals, language translations, first vs. full names, etc.

Small caps format for text.

Code for horizontal rules

Ordered and unordered lists

Make login more standard so that my browser can login automatically. It is hard to have to type my whole email every time.

Make the Calendar tag (%) accept times as well so that the sorted list can be controlled in a more logical order. If I go back and add an entry with additional info about an event, I cannot group the new entry with the old entry. If I could add a time of day, then I could use time to sort the entries.

For main descriptions, we're creating a Core Log Entry feature with higher character count. Not sure the UI treatment yet though.

Maybe when you click on an entry link you get to choose (e.g. a two-selection context menu pops up) if you want to see the core entry or the filtered list as of now? For power users the core entry could be selected by CTRL-clicking an entry.

I like that power user shortcut idea!

But if you want to change as little as possible in the UI behavior, maybe you could always return the core entry as the first search result?

Perhaps Core Entry should be always the first result with the option to toggle it's visibility. I think in general if I click for example at "@Johnn Four, the amazing GM wizard", I would expect to first see it's Core Entry.
As the Core Entry can be bigger than the usual log entries, making it disappear would be a great plus in case I don't need the general description of the character.

So I guess I kind agree with you.

Please don't format my tags ( I mean when it auto-capitalizes the first letter and then lower-cases the rest )?

I know I mentioned this in Google+ somewhere, but I thought I would mention it here.
( Example: I have an acronym: KOTH. When I use the reference I get Koth. I don't want to add the dots ( K.O.T.H. ). Not sure if that would fix it though, I'm using lists like A) and a) and they are all being brought up as A). )

I have acronyms and I'm using case-specific references.

Although I do agree with you that it's kind of annoying that ALLCAPITAL tags convert automatically to a Capitalized version, where only the first letter is a capital, but maybe you can create a post here https://campaign-community.com/index.php?forums/support.17/

@Bawyn I hear you on that. We had to make a tough decision on capitalization at the start because some things are case sensitive. In addition, different casing of the same tags creates duplicate tags. @JohnnFour and @JohnnFour and @JohnnFour would create three separate tags, for example.

I will bring this to @JochenL's attention to see if, perhaps, a preprocessing step could be used make casing irrelavant to autosuggest, search/filter, and tag CRUD.

Wouldn't this be just a matter of making the check on whether a tag exists case insensitive, while always showing the tag with the case how it was first created?

Here's a super easy suggestion. It would be nice to have a d% (d100) in the dice roller. I realize you can input that in the custom one, but these are used a lot and would be faster. If you want to make it even, d3 is also pretty common.

Any hopes of having the mobile app data connected or synced with the online web app version? Realize you can import etc., but it would be awesome of the data was in all in one place. I like the full featured web app for game play, but because my database is not on the mobile, I never use the phone app when I am out and about, which is a shame.

another easy one. make the prefix and suffix persistent across the devices and stay there as default. I forget to add them while switching devices. You can even make the persistence optional with a checkbox if that is needed...

Small suggestion: Add a name field to the 3 Line NPCs generator (I guess that would mean it would become a 4 Line NPC generator then).

Image hosting within the app would be nice. Small bump in subscription key should be able to cover server fees.

I'd also love a tutorial showing an example of Looping Planning in action within the CL App from preparation for a game, & update after game & preparing for the next game / advancing plots / events etc.
Agree with this 100% - would love to see how people set up prep for a game session, specifically how people are organizing next actions

Feature request: Descriptions for tags.
For example, if I have a tag called !"Wand of Yix" I want to be able to enter a description of the wand. When the tag is clicked, the description should appear at the top of the tag's list of log entries, maybe also as a hovertip on the list of tags. Descriptions should be editable like log entries, and tags within descriptions should be handled the same as in log entries.

Something like that would certainly be handy. The upcoming master page feature would probably tie well with that request. With that, when you clicked on a tag, you would not only get a list of all the entries containing that tag, but also a link to the master entry describing that object.

Those hovering tooltips would combine beautifully with this. If a tooltip showed an excerpt from the master entry, it might not even be necessary to open the entry. I would love to have tooltips available in generator output as well, for additional notes or game mechanics.

Looks like the master page feature was mentioned last September. Any forecast for when it will be implemented? For me it's kind of a deal-breaker, as I'm looking for a tool primarily for managing information during a game and secondarily for logging. That one feature would make Campaign Logger complete for me, but without that feature there's a big hole.

So you volunteer for Beta-Testing?

Sorry, I didn't want to sound snarky. We are approaching a point where Beta-Testing is the next step. Are you interested in beta- testing the new version?

Something simple - links to the forums (maybe this thread) from Campaign Logger. Also RolePlayingTips.com so you can easily navigate between the various sites.
