Subforum suggestions

Perhaps some of these areas could be useful additions to the forum:
  • generator discussion (not just support)
  • tabletop RPGs
  • off-topic
I guess it's best to start with a small number of subforums and add more if required. I think that the topics above could be some of the most useful, at least based on the Slack and G+ discussions.

I like the idea of a general RPG forum.

I'd advise against off-topic. Maybe it's just me, but I have no desire to talk politics, celebrity culture, etc. - there are other forums for that and it cuts down on our moderating duties. But I am mono-focused on RPG so probably not a good human to evaluate off-topic stuff. :)

I agree that the ideal situation would be to have all of the discussion strictly on topic.

That suggestion came from my experience on video gaming forums - people like to hang out on the forums, and when the community is good, they like to discuss also other topics. If there is no dedicated place for off-topic, it takes place in on-topic areas.

But I may well be getting ahead of things. Maybe it's indeed better not to invite off-topic discussion, but only give it a place of its own if that becomes necessary. And then it can have a policy of topics not to be discussed, like politics.

I vote for a general category, too.

I think some tech talk area would be neat too, a place where we can talk about technologies we are considering working with in regards to CL and beyond. 🙂

We do have this for add-on devs. I'll add you to the appropriate user group.

Would be good to have the similar things we had at slack.

Pen and paper
Campaign logger feature requests
Campaign logger - output examples of logs and generators
Campaign logger generator talk (new generator announcements etc)
Online gaming (arranged games etc...)
Who-is-who
Campaign logger release notes (every time new version, please announce what has been done, perhaps automate)
...

In Slack a channel is less than a complete forum and more than just a thread. For that reason I want to limit the number of forums and try to work with threads which we then can pin if necessary. Also, we could create an index thread for each forum where we can link to special threads for special topics, like, e.g., feature requests.

I still believe that at least the following would be broad enough topics to warrant a subforum:
  • generators (announcements, questions, tips, discussion)
  • software (RPG and development tools, utilities, Kickstarters, games)

I find both of your suggestions to be reasonable when combined...

I added Virtual Gaming for software, crowdfunding, etc.

For Generators I would want to go with sticky threads in News & Features, Logger Talk, and Support. If it sees a lot of Generator Talk and grows beyond easy manageability I will gladly create a dedicated area.

Should I consider that a challenge? 😁
I am sure you will crack the barrier soon! :)

We just want to prevent many nearly empty forums during the start of this site.

I second the idea for generators to have their own subforums even if it is nested under logger, as the intent is going to be different between the generator tool and creation vs the usage and talk about the logger as they serve as two separate tools with different communities. if anything the logger is going to be under represented in post, were as i feel we have alot more content to offer in terms of how to use, how to fix, heres my generator, etc
