Hey all,

I wrote a guide ages ago with tips for finding fellow gamers and a directory of sites you could look for gamers and advertise in.

The guide Filling The Empty Chair is free for Copper members here.

I'd like to request if you know of any Looking For Game sites, social media groups, or other resources, to post them here.

That would help a lot to create a modern second edition of Filling the Empty Chair, and it'll folks find gamers too.

My name is Gerald, founder of Nexus3 Games - a forthcoming online platform that aims to connect Players, DMs and Local* Venues with the games they love, building a community to inspire and foster our treasured hobby.

The potential is formidable: our core feature set provides a platform for DMs, Players and Venues to co-ordinate their games, while also spotlighting talented Artists, Writers, GMs/DMs, Venues and Events with local* relevance on the site's home page.

We're just a small crew of enthusiasts with a lean start-up philosophy, so we're starting small with our local part of the world - Australia.
Whether you're a local resident in Australia or Aotearoa-New Zealand or interested in having a service like this in your locality at some future date, consider being part of our beta testing program for this fantastic new platform.

Our dev team now have a landing page and registration API up and running, ready to accept registrations of interest.

If you'd like to be part of the early access testing group, as well as being the first to know when we're launching the public site, please head over to:

https://nexus3.games/

We'll look forward to seeing you soon.

I was checking out your service as a potential API connection. Sadly, the Privacy Policy is not yet up. A quick check of loaded resources showed that you delegate fonts to Google Fonts and other resources to other providers. For us Europeans, it would be very nice if your team could start hosting all files on your servers.

Congrats on the site @Gerald.Lock! You have been a Roleplaying Tips friend for many years. I wish you a huge success!

To Jochen's point, if you spot any opportunities to collaborate on the back end of things, we need to be GDPR compliant, and compliant with Germany's flavor of GDPR. I know you weren't asking for collab, but I wanted to provide additional context.

I would love to see an LFG solution take over the internet. Herding the cats costs GMs a lot of time and frustration.

Chris Rosser here, co-founder and lead developer of Nexus3.games. @Gerald.Lock asked me to join so I could reply directly.

We're currently drafting our Privacy Policy and will release it soon. I take privacy very seriously, as I've declared in other parts of the internet ~ so much so that I've taken a financial hit on projects to put the privacy of users before my profits. The main reason it's not live yet, is because I'm stilling assembling the components that make up our technology stack. If you want a sense though of my privacy beliefs as they will affect the development and ongoing operation of Nexus3, you can read the privacy policy of my author website.

We're using Google Fonts while in development because it's convenient for helping me to get the UI live as quickly as possible. The same goes for the various Javascript libraries I've pulled in from CDNs. Eventually, it's my goal to embed and serve everything I can within the UI's SPA source. The core API, content API and web analytics software (umami) are already hosted on my infrastructure and/or via PAAS providers in my name.

As for the GDPR, it's on my radar to fully comply with the spirit if not the letter of the GDPR. However, to be clear we're only targeting Australian and New Zealand users for our alpha and beta releases ~ partly because I've elected to write my own geolocation service instead of using Google's (yes, I'm insane), and I'm most familiar with A/NZ geography. Other jurisdictions will come later, and I'll be prioritising the Anglosphere countries (UK, Ireland, Canada and US), mostly out of my familiarity with them, our common language, and similar legal systems and legislation.

As for API connections, Nexus3 is built to be API-first, and I'll certainly allow third-parties to use our API. I'm also interested too in working with other service providers via their APIs if there's a benefit for us and our users.

Really cool that you are invested in privacy!

As we are now gaming online often enough and most Germans know at least some English, I consider it worthwhile to register at your site even if it does not target Europeans right now and Germans in general.

@JochenL @JohnnFour I'm curious about which service you think might best interface with our API (or vice-versa)?
Campaign Community or Campaign Logger?
I'm guessing the latter, but perhaps we'll have to wait and see once you've seen nexus3 feature set.
If nothing else, some healthy cross-promotion will be in order :)

About Nexus3

Nexus3 is all about community.

Every community needs three key ingredients to stay alive: people inspired by a common theme or ethos, a place to gather, and a means of facilitating those gatherings.

Our people are a diverse bunch, united by a common love of adventure, storytelling and teamwork.

We’ve always had a place to gather, whether at a friend’s house, the pub, local games shop, a convention centre, or more recently online.

Traditionally we have played with friends, neighbours, classmates and the friends of all those. The internet and social media revolution has given us the ability to connect with an ever-widening network of potential players.

We want to draw together all those siloed forums, those passionate, feverish hive-minds of adventure, into a virtual town square if you like. The tavern notice board, but fully tweaked to the latest in 21st-century digital wizardry!

Born of a simple idea to make finding your next game easier, Nexus3 is laser-focused on this central premise.

Just to make sure: nexus3 is a site where GMs can meet players, right? It sure looks like a cardboard game.

Yes, the site is about RPGs - the "cardboard game" is a picture of a scale model kit of Moonbase Alpha from the British sci-fi TV series "Space: 1999" - I think the joke is that the "site is alpha" which relates to the name of the moonbase in the picture.

That's also why I mentioned a commlock and Eagle in my reply - the commlock is a handheld computer terminal - like a 1960's idea of what a cell phone would be. And an Eagle is a class of spacecraft that are famous in sci-fi that come from that TV series and others related to it like UFO.
All of this relates to a famous sci-fi TV producer named Gerry Anderson who you may know from the sci-fi series THUNDERBIRDS which was also made in a theatrical movie a few years back.

Heck of a logo for an Alpha test.
Got my commlock ready...
But they won't let me fly Eagles anymore after that thing we agreed never to talk about.
I restarted the series and got to episode 6 or 7 before I let the stream account expire. Great series!

Sorry @Stephan Hornick it was a calculated risk that this post wouldn't be too much of an obscure (or mis-leading) reference.
Not quite a marketing fail - perhaps just a fumble, I hope - but it was fun and comforting to know that a few die-hards got the reference.
I'll be more direct from now on :)
