Vulgar (or Vülgår?) is a fantasy language generator that generates the basics of an internally consistent constructed language, starting from phonology and basic grammar rules and ending with a core vocabulary of the invented language. This is wonderful if you appreciate believable details in your fantasy world:
Vulgar is a constructed language (conlang) generator for fantasy fiction writers and role players that creates unique and usable languages for your race of peoples in the click of a button. Vulgar's output models the regularities, irregularities and quirks of real world languages: from grammar, to sounds, to vocabulary.

The free demo produces a 200 word vocabulary, and the full version up to 4000 words. The license is available for $4 during this Easter (normally $20). There is also i middle ground version that currently costs $2.

Ditto. Most excellent.

How would you guys use this in your campaigns?

Or put another way, using a generated lang as a basis, what other stuff would you need to do to make this work in a typical campaign?

For example, what if you need a word not provided in the examples list. What steps would you actually take to make a new word that follows the rules?

For me the most important use would be consistent names (places, characters, organizations, items). If a language becomes such a staple in the campaign that players actually start to recognize some words, language puzzles could be used for clues as well.

Internally consistent languages are of course not a necessity for a campaign, but they add to the feeling of being there. Sometimes I have introduced a language to the setting without an overall plan, just one word at a time. But this started to bother me and I reviewed my notes, creating the basic vocabulary and syntax as an afterthought. Explaining some of the quirks gave me new ideas about the culture and their way of thinking, so it turned out to be a useful exercise.

Usually I would simply invent a new word, either by combining existing concepts or modelling the word after the existing patterns. But in the case of Vulgar, the Pro version allows you to add your own words to the dictionary, with the tool generating the 'translation'.
