    I hate spell slots.

Spells failing suck. If you are going to have to pay for casting the spell, you are going to get what you pay for. It wasn't all down side, there were a couple mechanical bonuses that off set the price of magic. You were also automatically considered a noble. It's all yours. No worries, Lie...

    I hate spell slots.

    1. I like the DCC Magic system but I didn't want the option of spell failure. I want the spell and effect to be assured, but the outcome to be in question. Likewise I wanted people to see failure coming and a bad roll didn't result in instantaneous death. I feel a lot of this is pushing your...

    I hate spell slots.

Thanks for your input. Genuinely, I'm not offended by people clearly and politely stating their mind. Its how we share the best information. It is meant to be a different engine, and a different flavor of magic for every magic using class. Magic was different in Darksun, I was going for that...

    I hate spell slots.

I Teach D&D a lot and one of the biggest hang ups I have is explaining, spell level versus spell slots. I have never liked spell slots. I also do not like how there is not cost to magic. There must be some drawback to wielding cosmic power. I hacked together some ideas for this and have play...

That has permeated my games ever since. I have no problem not knowing the rules perfectly. I am always making 'patch mechanics' on the spot. There are really only two rules in RPG's: 1. What the GM describes and rules is the players reality. 2. If you feel rule 1 is unfair, remember rule 1.

What could modern-era role-playing games be about, and would you play them?

No worries, happy to share. I love TTRPG, one of the few things I dont get "imposter syndrome" speaking about.

What could modern-era role-playing games be about, and would you play them?

If you are looking for generic modern I have a list for that too. Most of these you can get as PDF on Drive through RPG for cheap. -Modern age (as mentioned)- its 3d6 roll under but if you roll doubles (say 2x5 and a 3) you would get 5 points to purchase special maneuvers. -Genesys- the generic...

What could modern-era role-playing games be about, and would you play them?

We need to define what modern era is, I feel it is mid 80's to today's level of technology. I find that most "modern era" games fall into horror or superheroes, and mystery though most incorperate some elements of each other. I like to read systems and do actually enjoy modern era games quite a...

    Introductions

I'm PigMonkey, I have been playing RPG's since 1984. My friend had the AD&D books and wanted to play, so he gave them to me and I did not read them at all. I didn't know the rules but I knew what I was supposed to do, tell a story and open it to the other guys. If I could remember that adventure...
