RPT Newsletter #1,191 | d10 Things You Can Do With a Dead Character

I am currently running the first campaign in a new world (been going for quite a few years now), and I decided to make it a kind of world-forming campaign, in which I did need the PC's to actually survive the entire campaign. So, I basically went the prophecy route. More precisely, I let the...

    What VTT Do You Use?

I use MapTool, it works generally nicely with my setup.

    Campaign Cartographer Q&A

First of all, make sure you are using the right street setting. You have a Cities of Schely map there, so make sure you use one of the SS5C settings (the ones with an m next is for metric maps). These should be reasonably close, but there will always be some differences, since the symbols are...

    Campaign Cartographer Q&A

The tiling for the water texture seems to be a bit small, it repeats itself a bit too often. Try changing the scaling size by clicking on the fill style indicator in the top left, go to the bitmap files tab, select the fill in the dropdown, and then change the values for "Scaled".

    Campaign Cartographer Q&A

Hi @Stephan Hornick, If Photoshop works for you, that's great. For me, it is one of the biggest horrors out there :) One advantage with CC3+ and its add-ons is that the artwork is in standard .png format, so you can actually use CC3+ assets with Photoshop if you want. Obviously, CC3+ isn't...

    Campaign Cartographer Q&A

Hi @Cortello, CC3+ is based upon the notation of styles. To avoid people having to search through tons of unrelated artwork that might not even fit the current drawing due to being very different in artistic style, only the artwork belonging to the current style is accessible by default...

    Campaign Cartographer Q&A

Happy to be of assistance Johnn. I'll be happy to answer any questions I am able to. I am very well aware that getting started with CC3+ isn't quite as intuitive as some of the more recent mapping software out there, but once you get into it, there is just so much more you can do with it. As...

Preview: Campaign Table Top (beta access)

Looks nice so far, and feels nice and snappy. Feels a bit lacking in features right now, but I guess this is early development and more features will arrive soon. Token management was weird, putting multiple copies of the same monster felt really unintuitive and cumbersome right now.

    Deal Alert

Thanks for the reminder. Had been thinking about purchasing Affinity Photo for a little while now, and thanks to you I managed to pick it up before the deal ended.

    Deal Alert

Yea, I noticed that as well. The Devloper distribution seems to be on par with other bundles, but the Humble Tip is really high here, I was wondering how Humble could justify 40% for themselves.

    List of Digital GM Tools

It is unsupported, but it does run fine under Wine/Crossover. I know many users who rely on that. Still an extra piece of software required, but it is quite a bit less overhead when compared to running a virtual machine for it.

Preview: Campaign Logger vNext (beta access)

Am I missing something, or did it become much more complex to get to your logs? I like the idea about more than one log for each campaign and such, but one thing that I really liked about the current version is that the logs are quick and easy to get to. Once you log in, you have the list of...

    VTTs

MapTool https://www.rptools.net/ I actually use this at the table as a digital battlemap instead of using physical miniatures, so I am not using all the features, but I really like the vision/light blocking system, and the ability to easily force the player view to jump/zoom to where you want...

Question of the Week: What’s your favorite monster?

The Disenchanter is from the 1st edition Fiend Folio. In second edition it appeared in Pages from the Mages and Monstrous Compendium Annual Vol 3. The siege crab was an interesting idea. Think I need to try it too.

    Giveaway: What's in their pockets?

    1. A tiny bag of various herbs and spices. Bought from the local herbalist, said to drive evil spirits away. 2. A dirty copper ring with an unrecognizable inscription. 3. A pretty rock the owner found that hopefully can be sold for a few coppers

    List of Digital GM Tools

Well, I wouldn't have been able to any of my mapping without Campaign Cartographer (www.profantasy.com). It can be on the expensive side if you want to pick up all the add-ons, and not everyone finds it intuitive to learn (it depends a bit where you come from), but once you have mastered it, it...

    Introductions

Hi everyone. My name is Remy Monsen, born in 1976 and hails from Bergen, Norway. Came a bit late to roleplaying, didn't really discover it until I was an adult, so I started playing in the early nineties. My entire group started then, so we were all novices. For some reason, I ended up being...

Question of the Week: What’s your favorite monster?

Beholders are cool. They've always held a special place in my heart too. But there are so many other cool ones to choose from. I am really fond of monsters that can operate behind the scenes, manipulating others. Staying out of sight, making part of the adventure unveiling them. Beholders, Mind...

    How to escape tags?

Thanks. This doesn't properly escape them though, as doing this leaves the quotes hanging around in the log instead. (Quotes do impart a change in the meaning of the text after all) It is also a bit limited, if I try to escape the entire value (in this case "+3/+3 +1d4") which looks a bit better...
