I still haven't completely settled on a note system (breaking one of Johnn's cardinal rules, I know
), but I've currently got a lot of handwritten paper notes, which I've started to transfer to OneNote and/or Realm Works.
So I am looking at 2 non-fantasy games right now:
* Cyberpunk Red (2045 AD)
* Salvage Space (2400AD+) homebrew setting on my own RPG rules base called eXiSTeNCe
I am extremely happy with a note tool called Joplin which is much like Evernote, but without the tether to the Evernote site.
It supports a web snipper and numerous cloud backend services such as Dropbox, Owncloud/Nextcloud, OneDrive etc.
It also supports Markdown and Mermaid (for graphs).
The main reason I have become so enamored of it is that it the same set of notebooks on my desktop, my tablet, and my phone.
But this month I have started a new experiment for D20 *and* my modern games - I am throwing everything into the Campaign Logger vNext preview and so far I am finding that I like it ... a lot.
The Campaign Logger tagging workflows works pretty well for me - and the separation of campaign entries (which are like topic wiki pages for your campaign) versus quick log entries is nice ... capture quick thoughts like tweets in log entries during sessions, then update the campaign entries related to them between sessions.
At some point I may try to figure out how to import/export my Joplin notebooks back and forth to my Campaign Loggers but for now, cut and paste between them works since they are both pretty closely the same Markdown syntax internally.
Added Note:
I use Dropbox and Owncloud for my backend Joplin noteshare - and Dropbox has a new "scan picture to PNG or PDF" that works really well for getting gobs off paper notes into the machine to begin with.
