Export Campaign Log Complete w/ Loopy Planning

Can someone (Johnn or otherwise) export a well organized log, with primary data, loopy planning, etc. While the tool makes it easy to make your own organizational system, I'd like to just copy what someone else is doing already.

Great suggestion, Gary. We're working on a new version of Campaign Logger right now. I'm planning to release an importable file of one of my campaigns for the new version.

All my current campaigns are session note logs, which would be meaningless.

I keep testing new apps, lol. I was in World Anvil this morning, for example. So right now I have bits of my campaigns in different apps that I've been testing: OneNote, Scrivener, and Evernote.

But I plan on consolidating into a single Source of Truth in the new Campaign Logger version, and will export what I've got.

Yes that's what I'm looking for. I also use a bunch of things. I'm still waiting for Scrivener 3.0.

What prep methods do you use in addition to Loopy Planning? Do you have a template you use for adventure preparation? Do you use PbtA fronts? I'm looking at stuff you use for your home game prep, not for making a big detailed adventure you'd sell.

Yup! I use Fronts and checklists. I'm putting the checklists into future newsletters as I write them. Today, the checklists are just in my head, so I'll put pen to paper and get them out.

Got one coming up for campaign alerts. And am working on the campaign checklist a bit more tonight.

For prep, I'm testing two out right now.

First is from Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master. Go look for that book on Amazon and then use the "Look Inside" preview. Mike's process is all laid out in the table of contents, which you can see in the preview.

Second is a return to encounter design. I stopped designing encounters in advance years ago, but have been hankering to do encounter design again. So I'm doing it again and playing with various ideas.

I would like to see more about checklists.

I have the Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master.

Can you talk more about how you use fronts? I've tried to use them and bought a bunch of PbtA books, but I haven't found them helpful in practice. They amount to a few sentences (the danger, impulse, maybe a few clock steps), and they never turn into anything I can use at the table - the information they contain is too thin. I need a lot more to improv off of.

Yup, will do!

I hear you on Fronts. I too scooped the idea from Dungeon World but treat them a bit differently. And I call them Adventures.

You have a big conflict. From that you spin off multiple plots or Adventures.

I wrote about that this morning as part of an upcoming tutorial for Patrons. I also plan on writing a few tips on all this in future Musings.

Hey Gary!

I'm part way through writing the fronts article and an adventure design article.

And last week I migrated all my Murder Hobos notes from various places into a single Campaign Log in the beta version of vNext - the upcoming release of CL with new features. However, it's not going to be a good example. I'd have to edit a lot/clean up some language, and then pull 301 log entries together into something useful for GMs to study. So I'm going to bail on that.

My Barbossa campaign is only a few months old with fewer notes. I'm going to try that one next - get all my notes from apps and notebooks into a CL Source of Truth and then pull that together into something folks could study.

I'm also playing around with a new feature called Library Items. These are different animals than Log Entries, and I'm still wrapping my head around how to best use them. So nothing definitive there yet.

We hope to open the Beta version up soon.

After that, it will depend on user feedback and how many changes and bugs we need to work out.

Would you like an invite when the Beta opens up?

Hey @Gary F, I've an article coming Monday in the newsletter that speaks to part of the process. It covers mining your session logs and how to plug that into your Loopy Planning.

@Gary F I also just emailed you a related article I wrote that involves fronts. Hope it helps.

A book on adventure and campaign design is on my bucket list. i'll see where things are at once I get a few more projects out the door.
