Feature Requests

For feature requests, the process is:
  • Skim this stickied thread before posting a feature idea in case it's already been requested
  • Post new requests and ideas here in this stickied thread
  • We discuss
  • If the idea has legs, @Rardian? approves and adds to Jira backlog
  • Backlog prioritization and bi-weekly sprint planning process take effect

Some of the requests that have come in:

Make url links a different color than tags. It's too hard to determine what is a URL and what is a tag and they SHOULD be different as they behave differently.

A calendar-style view of log entries, making use of the calendar tag to place log entries into the correct dates.

Make url links a different color than tags. It's too hard to determine what is a URL and what is a tag and they SHOULD be different as they behave differently.

Currently, 'Copy Entry' copies over the timestamp of the original entry. This is, to my mind, undesirable, as it means that entries based on a template sort incorrectly. It would make more sense for the timestamp of the new entry to be the current date/time.

To have log entries span multiple campaign logs for shared universe entries (places / spells / glossary / etc.)

Allow the sorting from "Go to tag listing", allow a secondary filter...like finding X in Y's tag listing. So far, I've been using the search bar, but refining the list would be better.

Aliases for tags. The ability to link multiple tags to that they reference the same body of entries. This would be useful for synonyms, pseudonyms, secret organizations, identity reveals, language translations, first vs. full names, etc.

Small caps format for text.

Code for horizontal rules

Ordered and unordered lists

Make login more standard so that my browser can login automatically. It is hard to have to type my whole email every time.

Make the Calendar tag (%) accept times as well so that the sorted list can be controlled in a more logical order. If I go back and add an entry with additional info about an event, I cannot group the new entry with the old entry. If I could add a time of day, then I could use time to sort the entries.

Just a thought, but a lot of apps (Safe in Cloud, MindMup, MooDo) allow you to store your data on your own cloud provider using your own storage space. Might that make sense if we're going to be attaching pictures and files?

Hi Gary, do you want to upload files and pictures to Campaign Logger, or do you want to connect the apps you mentioned?

I don't want to have to make a separate file every time I want to put in a picture or whatever. Most of the time I've clipped something and want to paste it in. Having to create a separate file for every thing I want to put in my notes seems kind of onerous. I was just talking about the storage - right now I'm assuming all my notes are sitting on the cloud somewhere. If you start to let people put in an infinite number of images in their notes storage might get pricey.

Also (and there might already be a way to do this), it would be cool if I could create a live view for the players. So as I'm taking game notes they can see BUT they can't use any of the links. Good for mystery games where you want to help players keep track of clues.

Hi all,
I wonder if it would be possible to have part of an entry that doesn't appear in the log stream.
In this way I could write an entry for the "Session log" and publish it to the players hiding my own notes.
I was thinking about something similar:

=============Entry===============
{gm| GM notes only for GM and not players}

Information for players

=============================

And it would appear in the stream like that
=============Entry===============

Information for players

=============================

Could it be useful to somebody?

Happy logging!

Have you tried

{|GM Note|quiet}

It is ONLY visible in the editor, though.

{|GM Note|gm}

Would be the equivalent.

For Campaign Entries, there will be "streams/feeds", too, more like "encyclopedia", though.
Those will have public parts in the future.

We need that WYSIWYG editor where all those hidden features are made visible. Is this feature documented somewhere, Jochen?

Or use the title:

I thought so as it was part of a generator extension and I recently ported it - but I cannot find any hint towards documentation!
Thank you Jochen,
nice! Here for CL you ask something and Jochen reply: "Have you tried it? It is implemented but not very documented!" :D
I tried it and it works quite well but not "enough": I mean as you said I can read those "quiet" notes only in the editor.
So by looking at the log now I cannot tell what I hid and where :)

The best option I could think of would be that those notes were shown to me differently (being a custom colour/whatever) and be hidden in the stream.

Happy logging!

I forgot...
The working syntax for me is

{hidden text also with @tags #here !objects|quiet}

without the first | mentioned by @JochenL

If I put the first | as suggested, the tags show up in the resulting entry without spaces or characters between them

{|hidden text with @tag and #place|quiet}

results in

@tag#place

in the log

Happy logging!

I'm using this to log, and I'd like to suggest that if I enter data in the Title field, for example, Title 1, it gets replicated as # Title 1 in the log area.

Did I get you right that you want the editor update accordingly when you enter something in the title field? Like this?

Or do you just want the entered title displayed as # title in the output Log?

Hey Gary, are you happy with the new feature of uploading images and pasting them into your Log Entries? You can upload files, e.g. pdfs, too.

I added more detail in the discussion on the Loopy Planning but one of the things I'd like to see is a behind the scenes trigger for all log entries to mark them as Current or Archive - so when an NPC dies I can Archive their entity which maybe will change it to a different color [red?) when looking (or won't show unless I select show inactive). This would be different than the existing faded out for those which lack entries. This way I can still drill down to information on them but their logs won't clutter - and I can remember a character is dead easily if it's been 6 months since I tried to use him or her. This goes with Items players may have destroyed, Loops which are now over, etc. I can remove the clutter without constantly generating NEW campaigns in a similar campaign world. I have more information in my post in the other area - but I figured I'd mention it here as well.

Another thing I would like to see is a THIRD section for logs. We have logs for current, entries for long-term, but I would like CORE logs.

One impact is being able to improv a character I may not have been doing before and keep them CONSISTANT. This is why I love the Wiki aspect of hovering over and I feel templates are important for this core subjects of your campaign in the campaign entries. I also tend to use items like, the seven sins, virtues, horoscope, meyers briggs, etc. to help me stick to a character who's philosophy may be much different than my own. These are things I use across all of my campaigns - they are DM tools essentially - and when I mouse over INTJ in a character entry - I want to see the detail of how to 'roleplay' and detail about an INTJ so I can keep them more consistent.

It is for this reason I think we would want a third section which is accessible to all campaigns - Core Entries. I think a Core Entry should also be able to be overridden by a campaign entry - so for example if I have INTJ but I create a game world different from ALL my other ones where INTJ means something different The campaign entry overrides the core entry.. but in this way I enter it once - and have access to the same common library of items for all my campaigns - and then instead of looking at a block of text - I have a couple of personality traits, and common 'personality' categorizations to help guide me in my improv and character consistency.

I would imagine the only difference of the Core Logs is there is one copy which is accessible to all your campaigns, useful for Rules - or perhaps you allow multiple corelogs - so you could have a corelog for gaming system rules for example. It doesn't clutter your list of items when you look up your entities - BUT you can still link to it - and it still does the wiki popup. (So I wouldn't see INTJ in my campaign log as it's just part of a core log - or it's hidden by default)

We were thinking something similar before, not for direct editing but for distributing rules content.
In that way, related to the GM Triangle, we would have:
  • Story: Logs, with Log Entries being, e.g., gamed scenes
  • Setting: Campaigns, with Campaign Entries being your game pieces (characters, locations, plots, etc.)
  • System: <to be named> for referencing "core" content like rules and monsters, or published adventures
I am not yet sure if we want to go that route as it will blow up the complexity of the system.

With the ability to have several logs in a campaign, I ran several groups through the same world and used Campaign Entries for shared information.
