Feature Requests

For feature requests, the process is:
  • Skim this stickied thread before posting a feature idea in case it's already been requested
  • Post new requests and ideas here in this stickied thread
  • We discuss
  • If the idea has legs, @Rardian? approves and adds to Jira backlog
  • Backlog prioritization and bi-weekly sprint planning process take effect

Some of the requests that have come in:

Make url links a different color than tags. It's too hard to determine what is a URL and what is a tag and they SHOULD be different as they behave differently.

A calendar-style view of log entries, making use of the calendar tag to place log entries into the correct dates.

Make url links a different color than tags. It's too hard to determine what is a URL and what is a tag and they SHOULD be different as they behave differently.

Currently, 'Copy Entry' copies over the timestamp of the original entry. This is, to my mind, undesirable, as it means that entries based on a template sort incorrectly. It would make more sense for the timestamp of the new entry to be the current date/time.

To have log entries span multiple campaign logs for shared universe entries (places / spells / glossary / etc.)

Allow the sorting from "Go to tag listing", allow a secondary filter...like finding X in Y's tag listing. So far, I've been using the search bar, but refining the list would be better.

Aliases for tags. The ability to link multiple tags to that they reference the same body of entries. This would be useful for synonyms, pseudonyms, secret organizations, identity reveals, language translations, first vs. full names, etc.

Small caps format for text.

Code for horizontal rules

Ordered and unordered lists

Make login more standard so that my browser can login automatically. It is hard to have to type my whole email every time.

Make the Calendar tag (%) accept times as well so that the sorted list can be controlled in a more logical order. If I go back and add an entry with additional info about an event, I cannot group the new entry with the old entry. If I could add a time of day, then I could use time to sort the entries.

Is it possible to name tags differently between campaigns? I'm toying with the idea of using the logger as a general productivity tool in the vein of GtD and Smart Notes. The bi-directional linking is fundamental to how Smart Notes works, but the names don't mesh well. It's certainly something that I can live without, but would be really nice to have - if it's not already there.

Hey @Shaun0John It will be in the future. The functionality is partway there. You can go into your Global Preferences now (the cog icon top right) and make some changes.

In the future, some things, like tag names, will be Campaign sepcific.

I'm sometimes struggling with the pop-up entries when navigating my cursor -- many pop-ups appear and hide all the contents under them. Could there be some time-out before the pop-up window appears (like 1 sec or so)? And/or some time-out after cursor hover above the pop-up to disappear?

We will change this behavior in one of the next updates.

The cheat sheet is available in every edit view:
I didn't see it in your picture, but in looking around, I do see that the "table lamp" icon is a link to the cheat sheet. Was this always there, and I'm an idiot, or did you add this recently, and I'm still an idiot? :)

I guess the cheat sheet icon is meant to present a lecture stand, but for me too it's clearly a table lamp. :) A pity that the info icon has already been used, as it could have been more intuitive. Would a question mark icon workhelp+icon-1320184117267379676.png

One thing I would love to see here is the ability to add a delay on the mouse-over before it shows the 'entity' page we have made for an item. I LOVE the fact we've incorporated the entities and I love the pop up. That is pretty huge for me in making this the best app for what it needs to do - replacing many aspects currently held in OneNote for me. However if I create an entity for everything - I may not want to see everything pop up as a new window I need to close - it becomes problematic. Instead if I could say set it to need to hover for 1.5 seconds BEFORE it the entity pops up we would know I wanted to see the entity detail vs. me being forced to close something I didn't intend to open in the first place (I was just passing over the word to get to something else). Great Job so far :)

This flow is currently broken. Nit sure if it's already been submitted as a bug.

It seems when I mention a Tag that doesn't exist yet, it links back to the Campaign page with no history. You can't hit the back button to return your previous screen.

And rather than sending the user back to the Campaign Screen, could we trigger a popup on click that is a Campaign Entry and Log Entry dialog? Or upon click it sends the user to an empty Campaign Entry screen where you can create either a Campaign Entry or a Log Entry for the Tag.

I think I might have mentioned this one already @JochenL @Rardian. I'd like a Log Entry creation option on Tag Entry screens with no Log Entries made yet.

You want to have the option to directly create Log Entries on the Campaign Entry screen, right? This functionality would fit very well to the Show Entries For Campaign Entry Tag feature. Basically, it wouldn't matter if I was in the Log Entry List view and filtering by a tag, (that's when the corresponding Campaign Entry is shown, together with the filtered Log Entries,) or in the Campaign Entry view where (in the future) all corresponding Log Entries will be shown. I'd have very similar functionality in both screen, right @JochenL?

For sake of better cross-refferencing, I would appreciate if appropriate campaign entries were somehow included among the log entries filtered by a tag. Perhaps as a list like that on campaign page (somewhere on top or as a popup or something?)

Hey plopp, thank you for your suggestion and helping us to make Campaign Logger an even better tool!

Currently, it's like when you're filtering by a Tag the Campaign Entry with the given filter is shown above the resulting Log Entries. Can you please give us some examples what Campaign Entries you would deem appropriate when filtering Log Entries? That way we could better understand how the feature you want should look like.

Maybe in a way of
GIVEN (i.e. I have) these Log Entries and Campaign Entries
WHEN filtering the Log Entries by this Tag
THEN show following Campaign Entries

By appropriate campaign entries I mean those that include the tag that's being displayed, same behavior as for log entries. I just suppose they need a different treatment (because of their length for example) than log entries

EXAMPLE:
I have a campaing entry for some location, a #house for example, and I have some campaign entries for some people, @personA and @personB for example; both of these contain a #house tag. What i miss is a feature showing a list of tags (by category?), whose campaign entries contain given filtered-out tag, so that on the #house tag filter i can see that @personA and @personB are related. I suppose this could greatly improve cross-referencing the prep stuff I put in the campaign entries.

Another Feature I would love to see is 'Categories' Example. I create organizations like Police, Mayor and then Amazon Company - I'd like to be able to categorize them so Police and Mayor may fall under 'Government' Organizations while Amazon may fall under Corporate... same goes with characters, Instead of just the broad @, #, % ^ etc. when I create the 'entity' I can then categorize it as I so desire and then it categorizes alphabetically as well... then I could look at (as my campaign grows) all organizations which are governmental, or all corporations, or all characters I have marked and so on. It seems minor but just the blanket organizations are just not quite enough - especially when it comes to locations as Planar Locations, Universes, Galaxies, Cities, States, Countries, Dungeons, Shops, Homes, Sewers, are all heavily different locations used very differently.

One upcoming feature is "Meta-Tags". These will allow you to sub-tag any tag. This can be used for sub-categories, but also states (MIA, KIA, whatever) or relations (friend-of, mother-of, etc.).
