GM tip: flowchart mapping

flowchart mapping

An old post in the Neuronphase blog presents a simple but effective mapping tip: instead of a presentation of the physical space, one can use flowchart maps:

When I’m playing in any kind of D&D-style fantasy RPG, I default to using a style of mapping called “Flowchart Style,” shown in the pictures here. It’s pretty self-explanatory, but allows you to be as detailed in your descriptions of rooms and features as you want without requiring you to accurately map every square of the dungeon.

[Edit: Originally my idea was to create a single thread for all GM tips, but perhaps in the long run it will be better to use separate threads, so that any discussion or additional related resources are easier to follow. If there will be a lot of related content, a subforum could be an option later on.]

Nice!

Next campaign I plan to experiment with Index Card maps.
