Afternoon everyone, I'm Necro from upstate NY, I've been playing since 2007 when I graduated high-school.
I run a homebrew tower climber campaign based on 5e.
My favorite die is the d4. Lots and lots of d4.
A Tower Climber. Sounds very cool! What's that about?

A 100 floor tower has appeared in the center of the area they party started off in. It's entirely a dimensional space inside. No two floors are alike, and they change in size from about the size of city block, to something akin to Rhode Island.

Each floor starting with floor 1 must be cleared withing 100 days of that specific floor opening. The first 15 floors are fairly easy to deal with. Character leveling and growth.

After floor 16, things get hard. And from floor 35 to 70, there are only faction floors. This powerful group owns/controls this floor and they are at odd with another powerful faction on another floor.

Oh and if the floor is not cleared within the time limit, every floor that hasn't been cleared, is immediately released into the world, and there are some grim nasty things in there.

It gives me alot of leeway and because I'm not limited to the Tower structure, it's not a standard dungeon crawl. It's really flexible. Means take good notes and prep about an hour or so a week and I'm good.

Hello, I'm tired. You can call me Em. I'm from the United States.

I've been running mostly DnD 5e games for about 6-ish years, but I've also made and ran two of my own ttrpgs, I suppose. (very few rules, narrative focused, relying heavily on experience, not really worth getting into) I've never run anything pre-written or tried other ttrpgs so far only because it's hard to focus on reading- but I'll write. 🤷‍♂️ Would like to work towards becoming a better story teller and fleshing out more minute details of my worlds (because I think it's cool, even if it's never relevant)

My favorite die is a d20 because the average d20 is a good size to see cool colors/details. Quick example: I have a d20 with an engraving for the 20 that looks like my dog. It's enough room that the picture is crisp and clear.

Greetings all. I have been here for a long time, but upon review of this thread I noticed that I had never posted my introduction. So, here it is.

I'm Kyle (people in Johnn's online courses may not have noticed me because I'm so withdrawn and unopinionated).

I reside in Colorado, USA. I primarily use a modified Rolemaster 2nd Edition gaming system at this point. I started GMing right out of the gate with the Holmes Basic D&D boxed set in 1978, but quickly moved to AD&D. Sometime during second edition I decided that there wasn't enough variation, so I switched to Rolemaster. I have also GMed Shadowrun and Paranoia. I have played Vampire: Dark Ages and D&D 3.5. I have LARPed a long running Vampire: The Masquerade campaign and a few short independent games. I also have a passing familiarity with many other RPGs.

Overall, my favorite die (or combination of dice, really) is the percentile set. I do have a fondness for a tiger-eye 20 sided die that my wife bought me that has very explicit phrasing for natural one and twenty results, though.

Hello new forum members! Welcome!

Please leave a reply and introduce yourself.

Where in the world are you? What game(s) do you GM? How long have you been GMing? What's your favourite sided-die?

Hi Johnn (and anyone else reading) !

I'm Steven (NerdySloth) and I started playing D&D in 1980 when I was in 10th grade. After a year of playing with friends I purchased the RED started box and started DMing for my brother and sister and any friends of theirs that would play. I played thru college and up until I started having kids. Then I dropped off for a while until my oldest of 4 kids turned 10. Then my brother gifted my boys with a new started box (4.5E). I got back in again and have been playing ever since.

I am currently DMing Tomb of Annihilation with my brother, 2 of his sons and one of my sons. Our campaign will hit 2 years APR 2024. Finally getting ready to venture into Omu.

D-20s of course, although I have a D-60 that I find fun ways to use.

Hope to get to know more people on this forum.

Steven

Hello! I'm Dana and I'm in northern Indiana, USA. My favorite die is the d12 (probably because my favorite class is barbarian).

I DM a group of kids at the library I work at. It's absolute chaos and a nightmare to organize (I have approximately 15 players that will come and go) but it's amazing to instill the love of D&D/TTRPG into the new generations. I also DM groups for coworkers, my best friends, and for family.

As a person with ADHD and other fun stuff, I'm always looking to learn and improve my game as I'm kinda a hot mess. I'm in the midst of the GM Organization challenge and I'm having a good time with it!

Hello!

I'm Dan and I too live in Alberta (never met Johnn face to face I'm sure we've been in The Mall at the same time at least once, statistically speaking) I've been a long time follower of Roleplaying Tips, even freelance editing for a brief time and truly love the materials they have developed.

I'm about to start GMing a Cairn sandbox campaign after a long dry spell of not being in that seat. I've played 5e d&d for a few years but never managed to run anything in that system to completion (2-3 sessions here or there).

Previously, I ran an 8 year campaign that started with d&d 3rd, moved to 3.5, and eventually pathfinder 1e (I couldn't handle 4e).

Before that, I was a devoted WEG fan, playing Star wars, D6 Fantasy, and any other home brew we could come up with.

I've dabbled with dozens of other systems but nothing has stuck. I tried GURPS for a few years when it was between 2nd and 3rd edition, Shadowrun (not sure what edition it was but early enough that none of the history had been 'aged') RIFTS, and a few other Palladium settings, and so on...

My favorite dice are two different ones for two, weirdly, different reasons.
- D6 because that's where I cut my teeth and they're the easiest dice to find and play with anywhere (ran a 5 day long 'one-shot' while sailing on a tall ship off the west coast using a handful of d6 we found under one of the bunks). and;
- D20 ... I want to say something poignant about D20 and the OGL making the golden age of ttrpgs blah blah blah, but honestly, it's because my wife (who is terrified of improv of any sort) will play a game I run (someday) as long as she gets to use a purple d20.

Hi all,

I'm Chris and I'm from the UK.

I've been DMing a homebrew 5e campaign for around 18 months now but have found Notion was becoming too unwieldy to use for notes during the campaign - I am now looking at porting all my information over to CL as it is exactly what I have been looking for!

My favourite die are the D100 - the dice of chaos and hijinks!

Hey everyone,

I found my way here after several years of reading the tips and emails from RPT. Saw the 1 week challenge and thought yeah, I should do this. Saw CL and was hooked. Finally came to this site and got involved and active in my betterment as a DM. I have been playing RPG since highschool, early 90s. I started obviously with D&D, the red box, then on to ad&d both 1 and 2. In Highschool someone got the paladium books and we used that and morphed into Gurps. I kinda gave up on gaming for years and years.. bought books and read many of the adventures but, never had players. I sat dormant until.. 3 years ago. Talked to my wife, brother and best friend, found a couple more and voila.. we had heroes. Started playing 2e and after about a year.. we switched to 5e as the content was far easier to comeby and wasn't ridiculously overpriced.

During the down years, I held game nights at my house on Sundays. We would play nightmare, a video/board game or monopoly, risk etc. they were really fun however, after a few years.. we stopped that too.

I really love by bones d6 however.. I am addicted to d20s.. I buy a new one every time im at the game store. Love reading stat blocks and encounters for ideas and then putting obstacles in front of my players dreams for them to overcome.

I personally hope that all my enthusiasm and excitement will continue as I go through the workshops and information. It has always been very wel received so I think this will be a great year to improve personally and who knows where it could take me.. but, its alot of fun just being here.

Hello I am not sure how I ended up here honestly. Lying on a couch in Ireland reading emails, clicking a few links and ... Poof here I am. I'm mostly playing a small Shadowdark game these days and learning how to hex crawl. That's about it !

I've heard "Shadowdark" a dozen times this week on YouTube, Reddit, and my inbox. It seems to be very popular right now!

I seem to remember maybe a kickstarter a few years ago where it was 100 floors. Is this the same one you are playing or have you home brewed your own?

Hi, Everyone!

I'm Nick Cardarelli of beautiful central Florida, USA.

I've been a tabletop role-player for 35 years. Started playing in 1989, AD&D, Middle Earth Role Playing, Palladium Fantasy RPG, White Wolf's World of Darkness and Call of Cthulhu.

In 2000, I established a local gaming club for 40+ gamers over 6 years. I learned so many great games during that time, ShadowRun, GURPS, Serenity, Justifiers, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, everything D20, too many to even list.

I retired from the club in 2006, when my first child was born. Played campaigns and one shots with close friends.

2010, I introduced my children to tabletop role-playing games. My wife and I have played rpgs with our children such as HeroKids RPG, Mermaid Adventures, Camp Myth RPG, Pathfinder, Starfinder, Star Wars D20 and SW FFG, Mutants & Masterminds, Dungeons & Dragons, StarTrek D20 and StarTrek Adventures, and in recent years, Call of Cthulhu and Vampire the Masquerade.

In 2013, I began running tabletop role-playing games online at Roll20. I've run over 360 hours for over 250 different players from around the world.

In 2019, I became the host of Raised on DnD podcast which inspires families to play tabletop role playing games together through interviews, actual-play episodes, and live events. Currently, over 90 episodes featuring over 106 guests.

In 2021, I published my first tabletop role-playing game module for DnD 5e. I have given away other original modules for several different game systems over the years.

In 2022, I became a Professional Game Master for Hire, either One Shots or Campaigns at Startplaying.games and you can read reviews by my players at
https://startplaying.games/gm/cardarelli

I've been a long time fan of @JohnnFour and roleplayingtips.com , I'm so excited to be here!

Greetings fellow gamers! Reimer from Germany (now residing in Japan), here.
Had been reading RPT website and newsletter for some time now, and am loosely using the 5 Room Dungeons framework when prepping.

I played and GMed a LOT of TTRPGs back in my school days, then a long hiatus until I rediscovered the joy of and passion for the hobby during the pandemic. Playing and running games IRL about every other week now.

I like anything SciFi, Cyberpunk/*punk and am open to various systems, if not too crunchy (OSR, PbtA, Fate, percentile systems etc.).

Favorite dice would be d100, esspecially for all those random tables!
