Introductions

Rickster, from Mississauga, Ontario. I've been gaming off and on since about 1982: D&D, Traveller, GURPS, FUDGE...but my favourite is RuneQuest 3e. I have GM'd in Glorantha, the original setting, and in Fantasy Europe, as well as a homebrew campaign.
As for my favourite die, I believe I'd pick the ubiquitous D20. It's one-half of the all-important D100, and in RuneQuest it's used to roll on the Hit Location table: every blow lands *somewhere*...

Howdy all - I got into Campaign Logger long ago, then stopped running games for a long time... But now I'm back and lost as a new born - so lots to try and learn. Been running games off and on since 1990's - mostly D&D. I currently live in Virginia. I guess if I had to pick a die - it would be the percentile 2d10, or just the d10 if only one was allowed :)
Welcome! Do you usually run campaigns (any length) or one-off games?

Hi all! I'm from Zwolle, The Netherlands. I've been playing since forever, been DM'ing for years as well. Currently running a long campaign in the Forgotten Realms for a roleplaying group with 3 first timers. Favourite die has to be D12 because Barbarian is the best class ever.

Hi! I'm Sobrianne and I've been into DND circles since birth since my dad had been a DM for years and raised us playing TTRPG. I've DMed on and off for a few years and now I'm back in the game because a few of my students have asked me to DM for them. So I'm a middle of three campaigns (kill me) with children ranging from 11 to 15 years old. It's been fun, but it's also a lot of work because they are all newbies and babies who love to ruin my scenarios XD I've DMed for "Chroniques Oubliées" and several worlds of my invention. Favourite die is d20 (classic, timeless...)

Hi everyone!

My name's Julien. Located in the Netherlands, and I've been attempting at successfully roleplaying campaigns for, uh, almost 2 decades.
Life often gets in the way, but I have found a solid group of (international) friends to play with. However time to play, and not least of all, to prep, is always an issue. Also finding the right mindspace to do preparations has been difficult at a lot of times.

We're currently playing on Foundry, and I recently decided to switch from PF2e to GURPS (DFRPG, to start), for a variety of reasons. That hasn't been helping much with preparing to play, but I feel confident I'm almost ready to go.

I just watched a video of a 5rd example in campaign logger (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mr75WeeCmMk&t=1s), which helped me a lot to get going again. Really shows some very useful options I hadn't used before in CL.

I don't have a favourite polygon die, unless the d100 counts, because it helps calculating statistics. I also like rolling multiple dice, because of the bell curve (hence trying out GURPS)

Welcome to the fray, DoomSparrow!

GURPS is an amazing toolkit and it is *very* easy to hurt yourself trying to use every tool in the box too quickly.

There is a fantastic GURPS "lite" 32 page PDF available on the SJ site - master that and you should be more than good to go adding in as much as you want beyond it.

GURPS is "simple but with as much complexity as you want" which can take some adjusting.

I am not a huge fan of "roll under" systems like GURPS - but not enough against them to not play or run.
"Bell curve" dice probabilities are nice for many things which does help... plus my favorite game of all time is also 3d6 roll under so there is that.

There is also a great book called GURPS For Dummies which I got and read through (I ain't too proud to say I am a dummy) that had a lot of good advice and points to ponder from long-time hardcore GURPS GMs.

I consider it mandatory for me to re-read the GURPS lite (and give it to players) and the GURPS for Dummies before running or playing GURPS these days myself - even if my next GURPS game is likely to be a solo game to run through some of the weirder settings books I have but never got to play at a table...

Finally, nothing wrong with percentile dice as a favorite - might be a good excuse to try a percentile based system like Basic Roleplaying, Rolemaster (you're welcome Kyle), Star Frontiers, Eclipse Phase etc.

And if you like rolling lots of dice ... you need to get a dice-pool based game going. If you have a few hundred d6's around, maybe Shadowrun or a Year Zero Engine game like ALIEN, Mutant: Year Zero, etc.

Thanks for the welcome!

I have very much noticed the overwhelming complexity of options. I indeed started out with reading GURPS lite, and that's also what my players have read.

I settled on DFRPG for that reason, which just severely limits the options for both me and the players. So far I'm really happy with it, the biggest downside is that I'm still in a Fantasy genre, when I also want to try well, basically everything else. The upside of it is that it's easier to compare with what I'm used to and to judge if this is what I want to keep using.

As for the roll under, I agree so far. It feels unnatural, rolling a high number is almost always a good thing in a game, now it's not. I also don't like the idea of skill = target number, but am slowly being more and more okay with both concepts.

GURPS for Dummies is still on my to-read list for sure.

Also cool you mentioned Eclipse Phase. My brother used to play it (I couldn't join because of work times), and the whole setting really sounds amazing. I hope to run something like that in the near future. Although, if things go according to plan, that will be using GURPS.

You can run GURPS as roll High: 3d6 + stat or skill >= 21 for an unmodified roll, 11 for ridiculously easy and 31 for nearly impossible.

Hello all! I'm a first time DM based in Texas, USA, running a campaign for 6 mostly new players. We're playing DnD 5e; I'm running a homebrew campaign set in the Sword Coast. We had our first play session yesterday and it actually went really well! All of the players did a great job and were really engaged with the story and NPCs. So now I'm throwing myself a bit further into the TTRPG world so I can learn the skills I'll need to keep it engaging in the long run :)

My favorite dice is the d20 but my dice have little camels inside so I am also partial to the d4, as it has an especially tiny camel within.

Hello, East Central Illinois (the Not Chicago part) here.

Started GMing back in the early 90's, played for quite a bit before that. Started with the ole Red Box Basic set for D&D and played most other systems over the course of my life.

Currently developing a fantasy setting and a stack of one-shot introduction 'whirl-wind tour' style adventures. I really appreciate the sudden surge in simple, adaptable RPG systems. Our group started playing Gallant Knight Games' TinyD6 systems last year and it's so much simpler than the classic crunchy systems we've always played.

Finding adventure design lessons that are system agnostic was great and totally worth the price of admission.

Favorite Dice: Large Dwarven Forge Solid Steel d20. No one ignores that roll :)

Hello!
My name is Branden, I've been a TTRPG gamer since the 80s. I much prefer to be a GM/DM than a player.
My primary area of interest is Palladium Books, the creators of Rifts, Heroes Unlimited, Ninjas & Superspies, TMNT and Other Strangeness, and others. You can check out my homemade resource for Palladium Books on my website (link in my profile!)
I currently run a Rifts campaign and am a player in a D&D 5e game. I also run ad hoc one-shots here and there.
