Hello fellow GMs!

I live in Woodinville, WA which is in the greater Puget Sound area.

Currently, I am in the midst of three campaigns. I am running City of Mists, I am sharing a Fate-based Rocket Age campaign, and I will begin a once-a-month campaign of Star Wars Roleplaying (FFG) in September. I have been a GM for Fate, D&D 4e, Torg and Torg Eternity, Feng Shui, Marvel Heroic Roleplaying, Serenity, Monster of the Week and a myriad of other systems.

I have been role-playing and GMing for several decades. I started in high school playing "City State of the Invincible Overlord". We played through Advanced D&D, Traveller and Hero Systems (1st through 6th edition). Our group has changed over time but we have always had a core of 3 of us that shared GM roles. We have even had systems where we had two GMs. In addition, we annually run a multiple-session game at our local gaming convention with 4 GMs going simultaneously. Everyone in my regular gaming group has been our GM at one time or another.

The favorite die is the d8. The PC I have run the longest uses d8's for her Warlock's Curse dice.

Hi everyone. I'm Itay (good luck pronouncing that :() and I'm from Israel. I've been playing for about 30 years, GMing from the very beginning. I started with BECMI and moved to AD&D 2e, and then I discovered the World of Darkness games, which really changed the way I played and thought about RPGs. I've been an active member of the local RP community and took part in the management of a few small cons (we don't have very large ones, and almost no commercial ones. The local market is very small), which exposed me to many other games. In recent years I took part in the translation of Swords and Wizardry to Hebrew, translated and published Little Wizards and am now supporting some friends who are translating Knave.
I'm playing in a D&D 5e group as a player in the Descent into Avernus campaign, and after a rather long time of only running short games in various systems, started running two campaigns - a SciFi campaign about a cold war following the end of a civil war which marked the end of a thousand years old empire using FATE core, and a Torchbearer campaign which will use the 2nd edition rules once I finish reading them. TB is also my favorite fantasy system lately, not because of the mechanics which are, unfortunately, rather cumbersome, but because of the ideas presented in the books, mainly - what it means to be a dungeon delver and how does such a risky line of work affect the person doing it.

Favorite dice? that's a tough question. I'd say D10s, because of the way the Storyteller system changed my perception of RPGs, and it using those dice exclusively.

Hi all, I'm jamie. I'm currently running a 13th Age campaign that is something of a deconstruction of 'standard' D&D. Once that is finished I'm planning to run a RuneQuest Glorantha game or two, and if I'm very lucky I'll get to be a player at some point. These games are something of a departure for me, as I prefer systemless and diceless play, having no interest in the gamist aspect of play. I am in it for the world building and character immersion almost exclusively.

I just picked up Mythras in the Bundle a couple of weeks ago but haven't been able to read too much so far. I am definitely intrigued though.

Howdy y'all!

I'm Tas, I'm a fairly new GM, been at it for a year now. I've most recently been running a D&D 5e Avernus campaign with friends in Austin, TX, and I'm soon diving headfirst into homebrew in the Eberron setting. Some other games I'm hoping to DM include Ryuutama and Ten Candles.

My favorite dice is the d8 - they're a power of 2, they can do a lot of damage, and they're way too fun to stack.

Hello everyone. I’m Jeremy, from Columbus, Ohio.
I started DMing my first ever campaign (5e) two years ago, but we’re currently taking a small break because my wife and I just had our first baby!
Hopefully we’ll be able to finish this one virtually soon, then I’m planning on starting an Eberron campaign after.

Hello everyone. I’m Crys (in case you aren’t sure how to pronounce that, if you think Crystal but take off the “tall” you get my name, my stature and sometimes a laugh)

Im a Western Canuck and I don’t have a single favourite die but I will stack my metal dice against anyone’s any day - I don’t think they’re loaded but they sure roll like they are.

I started with RPGs of all kinds back in the 80s. I basically was the annoying younger sister that bugged my older brother until he let me join in on whatever he and his friends were playing.

I spent years being a player and never loving it but always coming back to whatever RPG I could find through friends or family, determined to love gaming. It wasn’t until I stepped into the GM role that I realized why I never loved being a player (I’m also a manager IRL, that probably should have been a clue - All The Power!!) Realistically, it’s all the responsibility, but that’s what I actually love about being in the GM seat.

I also realized through a recent 4e player role and 5e DM role, I have fallen into some ruts and gaming habits that weren't working anymore. Time to step back and regroup and spend some time discovering new methods and polishing off some of the love I had for storytelling that I used to have.

I don’t do well with pre-created adventures but never really had time for more. But, time to make some time. I’ve been following RoleplayingTips since 2000 (pretty much since its inception) but never got involved. I’m looking forward to this new adventure building course.

I’m fascinated by a lot of the ideas being mentioned on this forum. Please keep sharing. 😊

Hi, y'all!
I'm Hiram, hailing from Brazil.
I somehow got my grubby little hands on a D&D fanzine when I was 7, and I've been DMing ever since.

I am currently running a weekly 5E game, a bimonthly B/X game, and a whenever-everyone-is-online-we-don't-really-plan-for-this Paranoia game. As our B/X campaign nears its end, we are planning on playing VURT next.

My favorite kind of die is d20. My least favorite die is a translucent green d20 that is staring at me right now, and that I am quite sure is cursed. Sometimes the things you love are haunted by vengeful spirits, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Nice to meet you all and happy gaming!

Hi everyone!

I'm Joe and I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I've been playing RPGs since the late 1970s (AD&D) and then branched out to Call of Cthulhu and HarnMaster. Now, in addition to CoC and Harn, I play Apocalypse World and other Powered by the Apocalypse games, like Blades in the Dark and MOTHERSHIP.

I like more narrative games, so d6 is my favorite.

Looking forward to class!

Hello everybody!

The name I use on the internet is the name of my very first AD&D character, Tobold. I have been playing D&D for nearly 40 years now, and very rarely play other systems these days. Both me and my players are fans of the more tactical aspects of D&D, we even liked 4th edition! But I am always pushing my players for a bit more story involvement, and am trying to get better at that.

I used to play either at home or in a local role-playing club, friends around a table with chips and soda. But the club is closed now due to lockdown and playing D&D around a table isn't all that compatible with social distancing. So since this year I am playing D&D on Roll20. At the request of my players we are currently playing Dungeon of the Mad Mage, a 23-level mega-dungeon with over a thousand rooms. I like to use published adventures on Roll20, because then I have all the maps and tokens I need. The story I can always change.

Hi all, Matthew here...
Been a long time follower (and rare contributor) to Johnn's most excellent RolePlaying Tips newsletter, and have taken the plunge to join his community of gamers.

Based in the UK, I'm an old-school DM, been around the block a fair number of times - started playing D&D back in 2nd edition (in the mid eighties - so I'm suspecting I'm not exactly the youngest person here - edit - though reading some of the other introductions - definitely not the oldest either!). Played a variety of other games over the years, and have always tended to run my own home-grown adventures with a mix of 3rd party stuff jammed in where I like them. Looking forward to getting involved in the community here - as a way to share plot and encounter ideas, learn skills and techniques to save myself adventure prep time (work is sooo busy at the moment!), and maybe make a few new online friends.

Current campaign - a home-brew D&D 5th edition with 4 players. Still early days for them with the party at 4th level...

Edit: forgot the request for favourite dice: I guess I love rolling the D20s, but nothing quite beats a percentile roll for me.

No. Feel free to create a thread in this forum. By giving it a thread of its own, it makes it easier to ask questions and focus on that conversation.

Don't feel pressure for perfection. Get your thoughts out. Who kares about speling.
I CARE ABOUT SPEELING! :)

Sadly, 99% of the stuff I make goes undiscovered/unnoticed by my players.
I know what you mean! The foreshadowing goes unnoticed, the campaign background remains out of focus, the world history languishes unread, the NPCs stay virtually anonymous. Whole plot arcs go unfollowed, unexplored rooms gather dust and cool encounters bump elbows in the sidelines as their opportunity to step into the limelight passes them by. :)

Hi All,

Im Douglas MacIntyre, over in Glasgow Scotland.

I am GMing a bunch of pathfinder (1e and 2e) along with a few indie types (Era d10 system - Forbidden) along with a variety of one shots for whichever system peaks my interest at the time (Looking at Excellents, Blades in the dark and Fate at the moment).

Actually getting to play now the pandemic seems to have locked us all in (all my respect/commiserations to those that face the front line). Playing some 13th age, dark heresy, five rings (3e), mage the ascension and some era empowered.

At the moment I look after the paizo org play for Scotland so have put in a good amount of time to pre-written adventures with a variety of players but moving back to building campaigns and things so thought this was a great fit.

My favourite die is the D4.. I love the stubbornness of not rolling while the solutions of the stealth D8/D12s to fix the solution..
