Hi all.

I'm known as Lensman online, & I have played TTRPG's back in the 80's through the 90's both as a player and as a gamemaster. My favorite game was Vampire the Masquerade, but like many I started with D&D, which will always have a special place in my heart. I've been following Johnn for awhile now, trying to get back that "spark" that I had back then, and enhance my skills as both a GM and world creator.

I tend to lurk alot, but hope to be a bit more active in the near future. (as time and work permit)

For me, the "spark" is learning. When a challenge is mastered, I get bored.

When we all started playing and GMing, it was massive dopamine. New type of game. Very fun with drawing maps, building dungeons, creating foes. New game and rules to master. New game format - interactive storytelling.

For me, it was an amazing whirl of excitement. Kinda like getting Netflix the first time. :)

That inevitably fades as the challenge recedes and the newness wears off.

But the awesome thing is there are eternal depths of knowledge to acquire with this incredible hobby.

When we tackle new challenges and see "old stuff" with fresh eyes because we've learned something, it remains exciting.

At least, that's me.

Right now I'm digging into sci-fi GMing for the first time. I got Cepheus and Coriolis this week and am comparing the two. The Alien RPG just arrived for a late Valentine's, so that's now in the mix, as well. Maybe I'll one-shot all three. :)

Exciting days!

Hi all. Long-time RPG player, living in the Washington DC area, Alexandria, VA, to be precise. Started playing D&D when I was 12 or so, hung up RPGs in my 20s for a decade or so, returned to my senses, and have been throwing down some D&D, some DCC RPG, and am now about to embark on some Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay goodness. Not sure where this new WFRP "campaign" is going, but there is a whole wide world and not a ton of published material, so it's time to roll up my sleeves!

Welcome back to the fray!

Grab a weapon from that pile of bodies over there.
Fight is down the hall and to the left!

Hi compared to most people in the thread, I'm new here since I started gming in 2018 and haven't played much
I like Dungeon World, CoC and Fiasco(this doesn't really need a GM though) I'd really like to try 13th but I don't have anyone to play withㅜㅜ
Right now, I'm translating system-agnostic GMtools into Korean(of course with permission) and introducing them to people
My fav die is d6...When you roll a dozen of them at the same time it feels great and everyone has one of those even if they are not into games
second fav is d100 cause I like rolling ramdom tables : P

Hi all,

Started with the redbox of D&D back in '83, migrated almost immediately to AD&D. As others, stepped away when I got married, had kids, etc. and back in 2018 picked up D&D 5E to play with my sons. Now we have a regular weekly game and switch off between a couple of different campaigns. Gotta say, I wish the thousands of hours I poured into WoW had been at the table instead. Most of them, anyway.

Oh, I'm in southeast Michigan, United States, about an hour from Detroit. Favorite die (set) are the transparent blue set I bought as a kid, complete with sharp edges and mold marks on them. Still have the white wax rubbed into the numbers.

Welcome Yev! If you like to roll a bunch of d6 you might like Shadowrun. The system is solely based on many d6 and target numbers, so you try to roll as many successes as you can. The setting is a dystopian version of our own world currently set to 2080, but warped with magic, genetic mutations (elf, dwarf, etc.) and cyberware. A game of man meets magic and machine that is strongly influenced by William Gibson's Neuromancer trilogy.

Hail, fellow Pilgrims!

Glad to have finally made it here after a couple of years of distractions. It was '79 when I first started playing--I was 10, and didn't understand a thing. My friends didn't either, so we had a blast playing regardless. Missed 3.5 and 4th edition entirely because of grad school, but dove back into 5th a few years ago after playing OSR for a long time. Have played a boatload of RPG's along the way but always return to DnD, my first love. (Johnn, if you can track down the Alternity books produced by TSR in its last year of existence, I still find it to be one of the best mechanics out there for sci-fi--in fact, it pre-figures 5e in certain essential ways. And I second Stephan's recommendation of Shadowrun to Yev--it is pure crunch fetish, rolling up to 30d6 in some instances! Stay away from 6th edition though--it's a bit of a mess. Earlier editions are great.) Anyway, I digress. My biggest interest now is home brewing and world-building DnD for my 10 or 11 adult players (yeah, we grudgingly let the kids play too sometimes . . . ). It's kind of a golden age of gaming for me out here in Fredericton, New Brunswick (Canada). Great to be here and excited to learn from you all.

Hello there! Like Yev, I've started GM-ing somewhat recently, starting in 2016.
After one of my friends kicked of a D&D 5e campaign, I took to Dungeon World at first.
After that I fell in love with The Mountain Witch (and my God, do I love it) and Shadow of the Demon Lord, which turned into a campaign which is still ongoing.
I've got a wide interest in all kinds of games but not enough time, friends or friends with time to try them all out.
My latest desire is to play an O.R.E.-powered game, so my D10's are staring at me to be used and I really, really want to give them more love!

Edit: Oh, and I'm from the Netherlands.

Then please do look up our Looking for Players and Games section in the forum (also for one-shots of games you always wanted to try). We try different games with our GMs here online. Maybe we can find an arrangement seeing that you are not far away?

Hi everyone

My name is SourKnight or Tommy, either will be ways to find me online, and I live in the UK. I've been playing D&D for only a few years now, started back in University with friends and have been playing almost every 2 weeks since. I'm an almost exclusively online player nowadays, so thankfully the recent crisis hasn't put a damper on our sessions, if anything it made it easier for everyone to always be there!

My favourite Die is the D6 and my favourite one I own was given to me by my partner as part of what she quoted as “The ugliest set I could find” and she was right, it was ugly, and I loved it.

I've been running a Curse of Strahd game for D&D 5e, and it'll be coming to a close soon, which will be the first campaign I've run that went to completion. Glad I found this place and happy to be here.

Welcome aboard, Tommy! Happy to hear you can play nonetheless. I'd be interested to hear about your group and style of play (and see a picture of the "ugliest set your partner could find").

Hi Stephan!

The afore mentioned ugly dice can be seen here.
Ugly Dice.jpg
My groups play style for this campaign has mostly been in keeping with the theme of Curse of Strahd, grim and foreboding. It's our first time really trying to get into heavier role-play rather than just a fun romp through a campaign as we have in the past. The group themselves consist of five players.
  • The Human Warlock/Pugilist, played by my partner, whose been having a rough time in Barovia.
  • The Goblin Druid, who is quite the nervous wreck, and causes me as a DM problems by summoning lots of allies haha.
  • The Half-elf old man Bard who has used polymorph twice to just... ruin boss fights.
  • The Shadar-Kai Elf, Slayer of the Undead who has quite thoroughly pulped any enemy in front of him, but also been geas-ed and memory wiped by Strahd at least once
  • The Half-elf Light Cleric, who made a deal with a dark power of some sort to return to life after the Abbot critical his skull open like a melon.
They've all been doing a wonderful job role-playing through it all, so I'm quite proud of them all. I've been trying to improve my own role-play with NPCs to match them. I've always been more of a tactical power gamer as a player, so I'm this has been good practise for me.

Hi!

My name is Kyle, I'm in Kansas City, and I've been GMing for 6 months. My Waterdeep campaign with fiance and friend has been on hold for some time, and in the meantime I'm working on a oneshot-which-became-a-twoshot in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, which I wouldn't be displeased to turn into a campaign. I'm into fluid party structures and "opening your game table", since regular-meeting campaigns are hard. Also getting interested in story games like Ben Robbins's Kingdom.

I like the d20 because of the way it rolls and comes to a satisfying stop, not too early.

Hey y'all! I'm Brian and I've been playing since AD&D starting around 1994, but only started GM/DMing in 2020.

I am running two 5E homebrew campaigns, and I also play some MCG games with another long-time group.

I'm a dice goblin, so my favorite die is usually the one that's newest. A d20 all the way, though, for sure. All the others are just accessories.
