Are you the one that works so diligently on the campaign VTT (CTT) Jochen talked about recently in his demo?

You could with me, but as of End of October last year there were 81% native English speakers and only 9% native German speakers in the forum (based on their introductions here). It could have changed since then, but I doubt it was in our favor. Thus, let's continue in English.
(I should post again a summary like I did then, what do you think?)

Definitely yes!

Longtime gamer since 1984 with Red Box Basic set. I have played all of the D&D editions before 4th. I got tired of how the value of each level varies between classes, how casters are way better than non-casters. Those are the main reason that I dislike that kind of game, and I also got tired of hit points but that is not a deal breaker like imbalanced classes.

I have played many other game systems. Some that stand out to me are Cyberpunk 2013 and 2020, Vampire the Masquerade, and GURPS. GURPS was my go-to system from about 1996 to 2006. Now my go-to system is Savage Worlds, and it has been since 2010.

Some gaming groups that I have gamed with play either strictly or primarily fantasy. Because of that I tend to not run it. I prefer Sci-Fi which can take what I want from fantasy and do much more with it. I like merging settings into a greater setting, which Savage Worlds does very well.

Hello all!

Name is Blaine from Tacoma, WA. Been GMing games for 2 years now, have finished a 1 year campaign and am in sessions 23 and 25 of two others. I run mostly 5E DnD but have also run Scum and Villainy (Blades in the Dark hack) and Numenera. Always looking to improve my craft and get better. I love curating music and ambience for my games, and running snappy combat (Out of necessity as I have 6 players in one of my campaigns).

I got into DnD through Critical Role and convinced my board game group to try it out, and we've been hooked ever since.

Excited to be here and to learn more and continue to get better.

Hi there,

My name is Linn and started playing D&D 5e about 2,5 years ago. I became DM (mostly because no one else wanted and I was hungry to learn all I could about the game - no regrets! Love it!)

Pulling a long campaign now with 4 (soon 5 friends) and I am looking for ways to grow as a DM and make the combat, roleplaying and exploration flow and be fun for my players.

Happy to be here and thank you Johnn for this safe haven! Cheers! 😊

Hello everyone!

My name is James and I'm from Málaga, in southern Spain, in Europe...maybe you've heard about Andalucia or remember "Costa del Sol" in Final Fantasy 7!

I've been mastering for more than twenty years now. I began with D&D 3.5 and I've directed The One Ring, Call of Cthulhu, Aquelarre and Omertá (Spanish BRP games about Spanish Middle Ages demonology and Chicago 30's mafia, respectively), 13th Age, different OSR games and Five Torches Deep, Marvel SAGA, Worlds In Peril, Don't Rest your Head, FATE, Savage Worlds, Barbarians of Lemuria, Vampire V20, Urban Shadows, Dungeon World...

Because the heavy prep needed, I've lost interest in the tactical part of the combats and I'm the living example when John talks about not respecting the rules for handwaving combats...and consequently, my latest games are too easy and unchallenging.

I hope this Combat program helps me with that! Any question about the games I've masterd is welcome... and excuse me for my English!

Hi! I'm Tom and I live near Cleveland, OH. I am currently on a break for a 5e game, having returned to gaming about 4 years ago after a multi-decade break. I love Ars Magica, Amber, Shadowrun, Torg, GURPS, and nearly every other system I've tried at least a bit. I started in 1980, for much the same reason Johnn mentioned. I like troupe style games where people take turns being the storyteller better than the traditional GM+players model. My favorite sided die is the d2, flipping a coin is always fun :)

Hi!! I am Max, Septic to all my online denizens. I have been DMing since September 1977 with the White Box D&D a friend bought due to sensor readings indicating anomalies in the boardgaming world. My first purchased RPG was the LBB Box of Classic Traveller. Thousands of Characters generated, and dying during generation lead to a 40+ year campaign of adventure through many RPG systems. I have DM for the most part, yet I enjoy getting my freak on as a Player Character.

I have enjoyed much of the breadth of RPGs along with my hobby of board wargaming, often mashing up the two branches of adventure gaming. My current passion is running an online Traveller 5.10 campaign Septic's Interstellar Scout Brew on Roll20 and Discord. I am proud of my worldwide reach of Players and their enthusiasm fuels a great satisfaction; as well as an anxiety to provide the best I can for them.

Mania and depression slavishly steal my time for maximum efficiency; I have yet to become comfortable with prep and am constantly working on becoming a Great DM. I am here to share and learn from all you wonderful dedicated DMs and look forward to productive and supportive advice and methods you care to impart to a fellow gamer. I understand and support Real Life Comes First.

Cheers and #rolldice

Greetings everyone and welcome to Campaign Community -- it is awesome to see you here, and really loving the mix of games and backgrounds everyone describes.

I will share my profile -> about info again here for everyone since its been a long while since I posted it.

Despite what is below, this isn't really about me, it's more for me to introduce myself to you and let you all know I am here for you to bounce ideas and questions off of.

I may not have answers, but if that is the case, then I will probably have questions that may still help from a different perspective.

For especially sensitive matters, please don't hesitate to direct message me.

But if possible, simply tag me in a thread post where we can all share and discuss.

Intro from my profile->about:
Howdy howdy!

My name is Allen and I am both from, and in, Houston Texas.

I am currently laying out my own interstellar sci-fi game on my own homebrew rules base.

I've been a guide on and off since around 1984, for games such as AD&D, Star Frontiers, Battletech, Living Steel, Paranoia, Cyberpunk 2013/2020, etc.

I really enjoyed the D20 3.0 open game movement and jumped hard into 3.0 and 3.5 and the RPGA, at one time doing their Herald-level GM program and stomping around the updated Forgotten Realms for a couple of years.

My favorite die is the venerable six-sider - because you can always find a hand full of them when you need them, even if you have to go on a couch raid side-quest.

The problem I need to solve is not how to be a guide, but how to be a *good* one - my players don't complain, they do compliment - but I struggle mightily with every... single... session... prepping cool locations, cool NPCs, and cool plots is exhausting and unfun and I figure its because I am going about it all wrong.

One-shots I can prep for I can ace and people have as blast.

Extended adventures over multiple sessions or full campaigns inevitably flame out ... and not because of the players.

So here I am to see how others do it better and have more fun doing so.

Hello everyone! My name is Erwin, I'm somewhat new to GMing (I've only been doing it for around two years now), but I revel in it, from the imagining to the prepping and the running and rinsing and repeating.
I really like DnD 5th Ed, and WoD, even though I'm currently running only DnD campaigns.
I'm from Brazil, and Johnn recruited me this morning with a discount on the Wizard of Combat course. I couldn't pass that up. I really like the content I've seen and the course sounded right up my alley.

My favourite dice... I'd say its the d10, because they were the first TTRPG dice I bought, together with my first WoD books back when I didn't even have a group to play. Good times.

Happy to be here, on the never-ending road to better GMing with many of you.

I feel bad for saying hi without answering the questions. :)

Where in the world are you?
Frisco, TX. Just a wee bit North of Dallas.

What game(s) do you GM?
The last game I ran was Rolemaster 2E. The next will be Savage Worlds. Over the years I've ran every edition of D&D, Scion, Exalted, Shadowrun, TSR's Marvel Superheroes, and probably a few others I'm forgetting.

How long have you been GMing?
High school, so *cough* *cough* years. Let's just say I've been GMing longer than I care to admit but nowhere near as long as I hope to be able to.

What's your favourite sided-die?
d10. It's used in my three favorite systems: Rolemaster, Exalted, and Scion. Unfortunately I've only ever GMed the latter two and never gotten to play. If I had more time these days I'd poke around and try to find more local groups to eat up my weekends. :)

Hello all wonderful people.

I am the Manos and I come from the Greece. I play mainly this game about underground hallways and flying magical lizards and I've been doing so for 21 years. Unfortunately, I have limited experience in other games of roles that are played on tables and my goal is to broaden my knowledge. Until now I have played Savage Worlds, a bit of Conan RPG (2d20 rules), Star Wars RPG (Classic) and that Warmachine RPG (now the name escapes my memory).

I'm reading and enjoying Johnn's musings since the beginning of my GMing "career" (that is, since D&D 5e came out) and he indeed has helped me being a much better GM that I'd hope for.

Oh, and my favourite die is the d12 I think. Maybe because it does not get enough love. If not, the d6. Because it is the first one I came to roll. If not, the d4. Because it is the one that can cause real pain!

So, see you around folks!

Hi to all of you people,

I live in the greater Bonn area in Germany.

I started playing back in 1987 or 88 with OD&D, had tons of fun with it, then branched to AD&D, GURPS, Mechwarrior/Battletech, Shadowrun, RIFTS, DSA, Pathfinder plus a bunch of other games I tried only once or twice for different reasons.

Currently I am not GMing at all, because I now have two kids that do not leave any unscheduled time in my calendar. Also, the same goes for all the old gang, so other than my wife I have noone to play with till the kids are a few years older. I have GMed D&D (all versions up to 3.5e) plus GURPS for longer than I care to think about, plus a one-shot Tales from the floating Vagabond.

Although I have played d20-based games for most of my life, I am a fan of the good old d6, which allows for some really cool mechanics, when you use more than one.

Hi John, Hi All

I'm back, I saw the faster combat course and I thought,
"surely, with everything else you've got going on, you can do this too."

Can't remember when I signed up for Wizard of Adventure, but things haven't changed much since then.

2 kids, (11 & 16) and a wife (not telling) who have an interest in D&D, and I feel like I need to hit the ball out of the park on the first try at bat.

Thankfully this combat course is just what I need.

I feel like if I can run the combat competently, then I can get them engaged with the story (planning on "Lost Mine of Phandelver")

We call Pullman Washington (8 miles from Idaho) home (That's USA for any of ya'll from somewhere else.)

Looking through the resources, and starting to budget my time to do the things that are important. Telling stories with my family.

Welcome, @Stoertebeker!
Including you, we have currently 18 German members (that I know of).
I found that even with kids, I can manage to shave off some time for my hobby. 6h on a Saturday afternoon or so don't work anymore, but 3h after 9pm twice a week does actually work out, even though I need to feed my baby and sometimes need to bring my other son back to bed. Maybe this works for you, too?

Hi Stephan,
problem ist, that all the people I used to play with are in similar situations, so for every couple one person would need to stay home to be at least near the kids. Playing online might be possible, but I don't see meeting up to play working out currently. Thanks for your thoughts though.

Maybe this is a way for you to get back to gaming: https://campaign-community.com/inde...d-an-open-table-west-marches-style-game.1268/

I am offering a player-organized game here. You decide your mission, find other characters for your group, find the date and time, and then schedule a game with me as the GM. Plannable, flexible, on-and-off gaming.
