Happy birthday, Devin!
I hope you have (had?) a great day!
I am actually playing Curse of Strahd also right now (or a version of it).
How is your Shadowrun campaign proceeding? (What happened so far?)
Thank you, Stephan! I've had a very pleasant birthday weekend thus far, celebrating the last year of my 40s with some delicious BBQ ribs.

I hope you've been enjoying Curse of Strahd! We've just recently finished the first chapter, "Death House," and I've found the gothic horror atmosphere of the game to be a pleasant change of pace from the usual D&D campaign. My character is a Chaotic Neutral necromancer, the first of this kind of character I've ever played, and I find I'm enjoying being morally ambiguous in such a setting.

My Shadowrun campaign has had a very slow start as we've all been trying to learn the rules while I also juggle my regular weekly Greyhawk campaign. I've run one of Shadowrun's older introduction adventures, "Food Fight," set in a Stuffer Shack convenience store. While I had a lot of fun putting it together and running it, there is so much to learn and become accustomed to mechanically. Fortunately, we're taking a break from it since our Curse of Strahd DM is available to continue his campaign. I'll need the time before the next available SR session to finish grokking the rules set!

That said, we did a session of Decuma first and managed to come up with a ton of useful information about the PCs and their local community, which I can't wait to use for adventure fodder in future sessions!

That sounds great, Devin! I only had BBQ ribs once when I was staying near Chicago. My only trip to the US.

How long did it take you to complete the house? We had 9 sessions for the house. 3 players. Each session about 2-3 hours.

I know the Food Fight adventure. Which of them did you take? 6th Edition?

Hi all!

My name is Og (short for Old Goat) and I live in New Hampshire, US (possibly near where the New Hampshire Darkmagics hail from). I have been playing DnD for a few years, like from '78 to present. DMing since '81. OGL, Basic, AD&D, BECMI Basic, and the start of 2E before life, family, and career took most of free time away. Started back into DnD with 5e about 4 years ago now. Sadly, confined to being a DM. I currently run three weeky campaigns using Wildemount/Exandria as the setting (Yeah, children grown and more free time now). All home brewed campaigns with adventures stemming from older DnD editions (stripped and grossly modified) mixed in with many of my own creations. I have yet to touch the starting adventures which came with the setting. I must be doing something right, since two of those campaigns are well over a year and a half running. The third has just finished session 6 last week.

Looking forward to possibly contributing, but mostly learning -- as that never ceases!

Herzlichen Glückwunsch, @BenS! You‘ve been quite busy lately, I believe.
How did your seven inspired campaign go?

Hello Everyone,

My name is Greg and I currently live on a small farm with my wife and kids, near Portland Oregon. I've been back in the TTRPG world since Jan of 2021, after a 38 year hiatus. My wife coaxed me into GMing for my oldest kid and some friends due to losing his group when Covid hit. Nearly 18 months later and my kids has dropped out, but I've kept the rest of the group meeting twice a month for a 5e campaign. Besides the 5e group, I do a lot of soloing with a ton of different rulesets.

EDIT: Oh yeah, my favorite die has got to be the d6. I could rule the world with 3 of them (probably).

Welcome, Greg! I'm a Portlander, too. Living on a farm sounds idyllic, perhaps because I've never done so myself, but living in the country looks lovely. I've been breaking into solo gaming a bit myself, though I have difficulty sticking with it since I'm easily distracted and have a LOT of games on my shelf.

3d6 to rule the world, eh? Sounds like something a GURPS GM would say... ;)

I'm PigMonkey, I have been playing RPG's since 1984. My friend had the AD&D books and wanted to play, so he gave them to me and I did not read them at all. I didn't know the rules but I knew what I was supposed to do, tell a story and open it to the other guys. If I could remember that adventure I am sure it was crap. Now nearly 40 years later I am still playing, and finally D&D has some mainstream acceptance. RPG's aren't just for dorks anymore! I have been a professional Improviser, Comedian and Podcaster. At the heart of it, I have always been a Table Top Gamer. In 25 years, I am going to run a game night opposite to bingo at the old age home. I cant wait to, screw up all the other old farts by screaming D20!

I am in an abusive relationship with all my dice, they appear to love me, but when I need them they punish me. If I have to give you a favorite die... its the green ones.

I do have to wonder how many of us started that way: presented with a cool-looking rulebook that we got a couple of mechanics out of and then just winged everything else for years. I feel like I learned most of the rules from B/X and 1st Edition via osmosis. Didn't keep us from having a great time, though.

Indeed! For me it was a solo game and some cardboard hexes that got me thrilled. But it took quite a while until I had my first real game. And I was so hyped I didn't wait for initiative. :ROFLMAO:

That has permeated my games ever since. I have no problem not knowing the rules perfectly. I am always making 'patch mechanics' on the spot. There are really only two rules in RPG's:
1. What the GM describes and rules is the players reality.
2. If you feel rule 1 is unfair, remember rule 1.

Hello new forum members! Welcome!

Please leave a reply and introduce yourself.

Where in the world are you? What game(s) do you GM? How long have you been GMing? What's your favourite sided-die?
Hi!

I'm near the capitol city of Michigan, and have been running games since the early 1980s. I started with D&D Red and Blue boxes, and have been running games of one sort or another since. My specialty is horror games like Chill and Call of Cthulhu, but I love all sorts of games. I ran the licensed international organized play campaign of Star Wars for WotC back in the early 2000s and it was the most incredible experience in my life.

I also developed and taught a "How to GM" class for WotC's Organized play program.

So, why am I here? Because I can always learn more, and I'm currently preparing to run a D&D 5th Ed campaign for a few of my friends.

Glad to be here, and let me know if I can help.

I don't have a favorite die - they all hate me. I am planning to have my cremains incorporated into dice and distributed to my friends. Every time they roll a 1, they'll think of me. And they say you're never really gone as long as someone remembers you.

I know that as a GM, as a player I am luckier!

Nice touch!
