Hi everyone.
My name is Remy Monsen, born in 1976 and hails from Bergen, Norway.
Came a bit late to roleplaying, didn't really discover it until I was an adult, so I started playing in the early nineties. My entire group started then, so we were all novices. For some reason, I ended up being the GM for the group, which is the role I still have today. All the original members of the group have since been replaced, but I kept being the GM. We started back then with AD&D 2nd edition which was the hype those days. And we still play AD&D 2nd edition, the entire group seems to agree that this is the best choice. We do play other games every now and then too of course, always love to try out a new system (often with somebody else GMing it to give me a break), but our main game have always been 2nd ed.
I really like to play all kinds of games, fantasy, modern, sci-fi, dark and gritty, or light with fluffy unicorns. For me, the rules system is as much of the importance if I like a game as the setting itself. For example, I've played Warhammer 40K by using the Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader rules and loved it, while playing with the Wrath & Glory rules I hated it.
I've always had a special interest for maps, both historical real-world maps and fantasy maps. First thing you'll see when you step into my house is a large woven tapestry with a medieval world map. I am not much of an actual artist myself, so I need software that makes things easy for me. I remember back in the old days, when I was younger and read Dragon Magazine, there was always these ads for Campaign Cartographer by ProFantasy that looked so great, and I kept wishing I could afford the software as it looked so much greater than anything I could produce by hand or in my painting program on my computer (DeluxePaint IV). Today, I am a moderator in the ProFantasy community forums, you'll see me a lot over there if you visit. I also write some of the user documentation for them, such as the product manual.
For anyone interested in free maps, I also operate a site at
atlas.monsen.cc containing a community atlas, a collaborative world. All the maps for this world is made in Campaign Cartographer by various people from the community, but for those not owning the product, all maps can also be downloaded in high-quality png format. It's over 400 maps there now. Feel free to use the maps individually, or if you want to, use the world as your new campaign setting. It is a great starting point if you want to provide the lore yourself, but don't feel like drawing all the map.
