Newbie here, a few questions (PCs vs NPCs etc)

Hi all

Just subscribed to Campaign Logger and starting to build up a log for my new Offworlders campaign (well, a one-shot with ambitions). I've a few questions on use, would appreciate advice:
  • should i be using the beta? Or get used to the release version first?
  • I don't see a built-in way to distinguish between PCs and NPCs - they'd both just be @characters? If i wanted an easy way to just show PCs, what is the best thing to do - use a custom tag? Could i use @ just for PCs, and use $ for NPCs maybe?
  • How do you commonly tag a session? Just a prefix/suffix (S1E0 for instance)? Or certain tag?
  • On which point, what is the sections tag intended for?
  • I haven't delved into custom generators yet, but I like the donjon generators. Would it be easy to include those as custom generators?
Apologies for all the questions - kinda excited :)

I can answer to the generator part: the Campaign Logger generators have their own syntax, see the documentation here:
https://github.com/open-campaign-logger/generator-library/blob/evesala/GeneratorGuide.md

But it could indeed be a nice feature if you could add links also to external resources in the Campaign Logger user interface.

Yes, custom widgets would be nice!

Generators looks a bit complex for me right now. Pulling in results of external generators would be great though...

Hola @Strange!

1. I would use the beta, if you are ok with the rough edges. You get the new features that way and will be a pro user when vNext becomes public. :)

2. Yes, you could make a tag. When I apply "meta data" via tags like your suggestion, I try to stick with the same tag type. For example, in the past I've used a @character tag. I tagged each PC that way. Then I could filter by @character to get all PCs. This way you know your PC/NPC stuff is always under the @ type tag.

3. I used suffix and the plot/idea tag. *S01E01

4. They are an extra tag. CL started with my Campaign Buckets as the only tags. Users requested more, so we expanded to 10 tags, including the section tag. Use it for any category of information you wish.

5. We don't have the ability to pull in external generators. That would be a great add-on though.

Cheers,
Johnn

Many thanks - loving Campaign Logger, and gradually figuring out how I want to use it... I'll definitely switch to beta :)

Yes, external generators would be great... Or for now, just a 'links' widget?
