Preview: Campaign Logger vNext (beta access)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Here's a video I made that shows some of the new stuff coming in vNext.

I also made this video to show beta testers the current state to help you navigate around.

I you choose to particpiate in the beta, the link is below and you can log into the beta using your normal Campaign Logger credentials.

We are looking for feedback. Please post your feedback in the thread below. Thanks!

Here's how to access the beta:

Addendum
Some corrections and additional notes:
  • Install App: Offline work is prepared, but not live at the moment. Currently, you just install it to start it directly from your app menu instead of browsing to the web site.
  • The Refresh button is not updating the app but just reloading data from the server - in case you have old data still in your local cache. This will be removed in the future and be an automated background task associated with the above offline feature.
  • Download/Upload: Campaign Entries are currently not included yet but will be in the future
  • Images: there will be an upload function in the future
  • Character Limits: Log Entry 2,500; Campaign Entry: 250,000
Use the New Generator Service
There's a slick new tool for building your custom generators.

Use it as a standalone tool, or to feed dynamic generators into your Campaign Logger vNext account.

Details here: https://campaign-community.com/index.php?threads/preview-generator-service-beta.682/

You should be able to do this right now:

This is on the feature wish list.

This should be fixed now. Can you retest?

This is planned for one of the next updates.

There are only those custom hotkeys at the moment:
Ctrl-S: Save without closing entry editor, save and close anywhere else
Ctrl-Enter: Save and close
Ctrl-Shift-F: Focus Search / Filter input

Do you have suggestions

Should be implemented by now.
for additional hotkeys?

Woohoo! These are great!

For hotkey ideas:
- after navigating to a campaign entry, something to edit the title and/or entry
- jump to campaign entries
- with ctrl-enter, could there also be "create and navigate" if there's just 1 entry? i'm often entering 1 new @"person dujour" and it'd be nice not to have to find them in my list of 200 characters after just creating them.

  • On Windows, F2 initiates editing, if possible, how about: F2 to start editing the entry, Ctrl-F2 to start editing the "title"
  • Maybe, Ctrl-Shift-E to jump to Campaign Entries listing and Ctrl-Shift-L to jump to Campaign Logs listing - as long as you in a campaign - no matter how deep within a campaign?
  • Can you explain the "Create and Navigate" flow in more detail, maybe with screenshots? I don't understand what you want to achieve.

Yesterday my ISP had trouble with DNS resolution. I lost contact with the CL backend several times. I ended up writing the same paragraph four times and then saved it locally in a text file to update my log this morning when everything was OK again.

That was a real pain.

I will change the save behavior in the future:
- If saving to the server was not possible you will get a notification
- If saving to the server was not possible the changes will be cached locally so you don't lose your work

Please add to this list when you have additional scenarios you want to be covered.

  • F2 options sound great!
  • I like Ctrl-Shift-E and -L as well!
  • I missed this one: From Campaign Entries, I'd like Ctrl-N to create a new entry (Add / open Tags) - and then put cursor focus there
  • From there in a blank Create Entries/Tags window, in answer to your request for clarification, if I enter just 1 tag, could there be a "Save and Go" option? I realize it would only work for a single entry, but it would save me having to find my brand new entry to get to editing it. (Less a hotkey thing than a feature thing, but a hotkey as well if it becomes a feature, please) 1617368955374.png

Or go to the first added Campaign Entry...

I'll add date created and date update in the future.

Update Time:
  • Streams/Feeds hide the tag symbol when so configured in CL
  • Streams/Feeds show selected category colors
  • Streams/Feeds respect the ordering applied in CL
  • Diagrams/Charts can be printed to PDF
  • Log Entries can be auto-numbered based on the current order, overwriting the ordering attribute
  • The ordering attribute of Log Entries can be edited directly
  • Preferences can be reset to default values
  • Mermaid errors are inlined instead of appended to the end of the page
  • The title of Log Entries is part of searching/filtering
  • During campaign/log creation a hint on optimal image size is given
  • Inserting a space after auto-complete is a new option

nice, when is the update?

It is here:

Sometimes, you need to Ctrl-F5 your web page to get the newest version.
That's due to the service worker technology caching files on the client-side and not always recognizing changes that require a reload.

ahh yes that worked.

so how does the ordering work? if im building a time line with entries and i wanna move a new entry down the line, what do i change in the value?

Ordering is alphanumerical:
- In the log view entries are sorted descending (aka newest first)
- In the streams view entries are sorted ascending (aka latest first)

As the "auto:" values are pretty unwieldy, I also implemented the (re)-numbering of entries according to the current sorting. Just hit the three lines button to the left of the print button.

ahhhh it takes the number of the entry and puts 2 zeros behind it, much easier to play with :)
