Here's a video I made that shows some of the new stuff coming in vNext.

I also made this video to show beta testers the current state to help you navigate around.

I you choose to particpiate in the beta, the link is below and you can log into the beta using your normal Campaign Logger credentials.

We are looking for feedback. Please post your feedback in the thread below. Thanks!

Here's how to access the beta:

Addendum
Some corrections and additional notes:
  • Install App: Offline work is prepared, but not live at the moment. Currently, you just install it to start it directly from your app menu instead of browsing to the web site.
  • The Refresh button is not updating the app but just reloading data from the server - in case you have old data still in your local cache. This will be removed in the future and be an automated background task associated with the above offline feature.
  • Download/Upload: Campaign Entries are currently not included yet but will be in the future
  • Images: there will be an upload function in the future
  • Character Limits: Log Entry 2,500; Campaign Entry: 250,000
Use the New Generator Service
There's a slick new tool for building your custom generators.

Use it as a standalone tool, or to feed dynamic generators into your Campaign Logger vNext account.

Details here: https://campaign-community.com/index.php?threads/preview-generator-service-beta.682/

speaking of old log entries functioning as core nodes, is there a way to import them so i dont have to re-write all my core nodes ? :D

Could we offer alternate displays within this screen via toggle icons?

I'd like:
Table View, with sortable columns: [Tag Name], [Tag Count],[Last Modified],[Created]
Tag List, simply vertical, sortable by Name ASC and DSC
Tag Cloud (tags with higher counts get increased font size)

Would it be possibly to "sticky" tags. So at the top of the screen would be a line or two, aplha sorted, of tags I use so much I just want them right there all the time. Would like this to be tags stickied from all Tag Types.

eg @Adama, #Bison, $Cloak of Luck, ^Dungeon of Doom, etc.

All stickied tags from all types listed alpha at top of every tag screen. Maybe even sidebar.

Yes, you can import you old logs with their entries:

After that copy the entry to a new Campaign entry like so:

Yes, we can do that.

Maybe with the upcoming meta-tagging feature?

Hey I've since changed my Last name legally (through Marriage), but my account still shows up as my old name. Where can I go to change this?

Here on CC there should be no name stored except for the one you haven chosen during registration.
The only place we store your name related to CC and CL is on CID: https://campaign-identity.com/
There you can login and then select "Update Profile" to change your last name.
This will be in effect next time you login to CL vNext.

This got me thinking of sub-tags or categories, if i wanted to group all loot items that are cloaks/capes/robes and maybe i have 10 @chars that i want grouped in a specific region. im not sure if this fits the structure though. But it was just a thought

Yes, we can do that.

Maybe with the upcoming meta-tagging feature?
this might be along the lines of what i was thinking with sub-tags :D
I re-purposed one of the tags § for titles and positions so if i couldnt remember the name of a captain i could just look up all the captains. Or if i just needed a random §noble then i dont need to know a specific @name :)

Say i have a planning log and a sessions log, if i wanted to see all the entries (across both logs) for a single tag how do I do that?

For example, I have some information about an NPC (in the planning log), and i wanted to see how the PCs had interacted with them (in the sessions log) so that I can figure out whats next. How do I do that?

A suggestion about navigation: at the moment if you're viewing a campaign entry, or in a specific campaign log, if you wanted to navigate to a different log, you have to click the campaign breadcrumb, then mouse over to the specific log (or campaign entry) you want to see.

It might be easier if there was some sort of sidebar which was visible on all pages and had links to the campaign, all logs and possibly all campaign entries as well for faster navigation.

We are currently working on this.

I want to place it near the generators. I am currently thinking of a more customizable version where you define the rolls you want to see yourself.

It should be a modern browser. I am testing it regularly with Firefox and Chrome. And sometimes with Edge and Safari.
If you use another browser, please let me know how CL is working there.
I'm using Vivaldi and it seems to work just fine!

Am I missing something, or did it become much more complex to get to your logs? I like the idea about more than one log for each campaign and such, but one thing that I really liked about the current version is that the logs are quick and easy to get to. Once you log in, you have the list of logs in front of you.
With this version, you have to log in, click on Campaigns on the 'Overview' screen (There is a 'Logs' box here too, maybe you are planning on making that clickable too?), click on my campaign, and then finally click on the log.

May I suggest some kind of 'favourite' system for logs, that will show all logs marked as favourite right on the overview screen, making them quick to get to like in the current version?

Currently, you cannot view entries from different logs on once screen. As of now, I am using two tabs: one for the planning log and one for the session log. Of course, we can think of an aggregated view where you draw entries from several logs in a campaign.

One tester wrote me by email saying the animations in the vNext slow the app down a lot. Is anyone experiencing any slowness during any operations?

Hi,

I might have found a bug?
When I hover over a tag and the associated Campaign Entry panel slides open, if I scroll down to see the entire entry the whole screen starts to wiggle up and down like it is trying to open and close the entry panel rapidly. I'd take a video if I knew how.

No need for a video.

The current "reveal" of Campaign Entries is an early experiment. We will likely change it and are open to suggestions.
At the moment it looks like we will have a bubble/popup showing this (instead of the downslide). It will stay open until closed explicitly.
What do you think about that solution?

i had a thought, with regards to relocating old logs to new beta.
would it be possible to have a feature that does something like this:
I go into my campaign log entries, then i select a certain tag and see all @ as usual.
then somehow i can select N number of tags and export the tags+name as empty entries as core nodes?

Reasoning:
I got to thinking, that the way you could use tags before you might not have had a single entry that was the same as a core node now, you might have all information about the tag spread out across many logs. So instead of copying all those log content over to the core node, you can have a blank core node you can fill out with the bare core bones of the tag.

This could be even more useful if campaign core nodes at some point became sharable between campaigns, as you could have multiple campaigns set in the same setting and use the same characters, items, sites etc in all of them and un-affected by each other or likewise affected by each other. If campaign-logger could string together this kind of relationship between tags and campaigns we could implement the bucket system and only have 1 bucket for all campaigns to dip into for information.

im not sure if im conveying my idea right hehe...

Another thing, i just went into some logs to change a tag name, but the old tag name still shows up in the tag list, being able to edit the tag name in tag list would be epic :)

and now for the farside ideas:
creating a relationship map based on tags-entries - i know that anything is basically possible its just a matter of time and money, however is it feasible? :) based on which tags show up in each others entries ? or maybe some alternative ?

one example use case could be: I want to see a map of all the @factioncharacters in this ^Organistation, maybe a rank system could be incorporated and wupti we got ourselves a Faction pyramid!! :D

Maybe ideas like these are other apps, that use logger as a datasource, instead of being directly in logger. But brainstorming out in this direction could open up a galaxy of cool features? :D Impose different logics and get different results, relating @characters and ^organisations and *plots could also be useful?

Tag list counting seems to regard uppercase and lowercase differences.
example: SunkenCitadel-1 Sunkencitadel-9 but when i jump to the uppercase i get all entries.

I get that it's smart to disregard user spelling error in this regard and i also get why it's smart to still keep an original record of it, sometimes including an uppercase letter can ease your tagging by omitting spaces and hypens. But it's also confusing at the same time. could this be solved by a calculated column that creates an all lowercase record of the tag name as a sort of tag-title? when i clean up data for powerquery i often do stuff like transforming all records to lowercase to account for various ways of spelling stuff so i can do joins/merges.

maybe it's an issue thats is already on the todo list :)
