Screen Time versus Roleplaying

RP friends talking about a gaming table with screen underneath and big screen behind the GM:

"I think the embedded screen is cool, but I really like RPing to get away from screen time, so I'm of two minds."

My response:
Get even further away - a blind friend of mine hit me with this once: run your game/play your game with your eyes closed the entire time and just LISTEN to game and see what you get...

or ... just tape record a session and go and play it back ... and see how it sounds without all the rest

i ended up with the tape recorder thing for a long time as a way to go back and make notes / not miss stuff

nowadays it would just tempt people into podcasting which is a distraction from roleplaying heh

even now in my current Cyberpunk game, I find I close my eyes a LOT before I start talking about a new scene - so I describe it while picturing it

Perfect timing. You‘re right.
Last time we ended the session on the party rescuing one party member from being chomped down and swallowed by a huge ogre in its cave, a new effect that appeared with the magic sword of the bard and on finding the many wonderful loot that the ogre family had collected for ages.
I was going to basically use a picture to begin tonight’s session. A description is so much more appealing!
