I'm having a real hard time wrapping my head around the intended STRUCTURE of logs in CL. (all my searching hasn't turned up anything that's really "clicked" for me)
Seems like we have logs inside logs inside logs... and tag linking only extends so far.

I keep wanting to just start copying over some of my notes from other sources (mainly OneNote), but I don't want to put a bunch of entries at the wrong level and have to redo stuff.

A basic example of how this structure works would go a long way (it seems a little more clear to me in vNext, since we have "campaigns" as a parent "log" for our other "logs", but the russian-nesting-doll-ness of it is still throwing me)

For example, if I want to put some bullet points about an organization that aren't specific to any one session or plan, where would I put that? In my head I'd make an entry (I guess a "log"?) with the org's name, and said points... but where? I don't want to have to refer back to a specific session log or similar every time I want their leadership structure, for example. In vNext it looks like I can make "campaign Entries" that might fit the bill, and refer to them with links later? Is there a way to do that in standard CL?

I agree. I'm happy to play with it but I'm reluctant to really use it the way it deserves without having a worked example of how you integrate multiple logs and master data.
For example, when you're doing loopy planning, how does that work? Where do to the threads go? etc.

Literally, specifically this.

I know it's built for Loopy Planning - that was literally Johnn's point in developing it, so I KNOW it works. It's just not organized quite how my brain naturally wants to organize things - and the last thing I want to do is be fighting another piece of software to work how I do.

It SEEMS like the idea is you just... have a billion "log entries" inside a given log? I've seen descriptions making a "Planning" Log (at what I'm thinking of as the 2nd level, one below "Campaign" logs in vNext or just... "Logs" in standard). Put stuff in that, and as you develop your various Plots and stuff, each one gets a new log entry. So if you've got 7 Plots for a given session you'd have 7 log entries in... somewhere.

I know you can sort things by searching for "Session X" or using prefixes to make that easier, it just feels... so MESSY to have 56 (or however many) sessions worth of data (with who knows how many log entries each) in a single Log.

But it also feels like the intent of CL isn't really to make a separate 2nd level Log for every session, with log entries IN it. I'm not sure what the intent is, honestly. Every time I read something that makes me think "OH! I get it!" and then I try to IMPLEMENT that... I get a bit lost again.

CL isn't a complex system. I just wish we had a SUPER BASIC tutorial that walked us through setting it up to build adventures and run a campaign the way Johnn does - since that's presumably the reason 99% of us got it, we like his system.

Or heck - just a graphic showing the way Logs nest inside each other (I really hate the way literally everything is just called a "log" with no way to differentiate between levels when talking about them).
