Terry Herc has just published an RPG-themed DIY version of Rory's Story Cubes, provided as PDF templates:
I am a huge fan of Rory’s Story Cubes, which I discovered a few years ago. The core concept is that these d6 are printed with unique and evocative pictures, and you roll them and link the images together to create a story. As soon as I heard about these, I latched onto the idea, and I found them to be incredibly helpful when I got stuck.

Instructions for cutting up and gluing the templates over D6s are provided in the blog post, as well as images for creating over 200 different brainstorming dice.

I really like the concept behind this, though rather then printing dice out, I saw he was using this site: https://game-icons.net/ and there is a random icon button at the bottom... so you could use that to roll for images without having to print them or overlay them to dice...

but really neat idea, I looked into something like this a while back and to have custom dice printed, it was around $500.00 for the number of dice he was looking at (this is with cheap plastic dice with printed faces)

I was thinking myself that an idea prompt generator working along those lines could be neat.

I just wish it was possible to include graphics in generator output, as creating your own interpretation of the resulting images is part of the creative process

I am wondering if the dice roller for CL could be open to this as I havent looked at the web version but the one in the windows app looks to just be a bunch of images of the numbers, any insight into this @JochenL ?

The dice generator is the same in both versions. We could add images via URL. This would also be nice for log entries

Currently we use {"url"|text} for linking. What about {"url"|text|img} for instead of rendering?
This would use the transformation syntax we created for formatting.
It is similar and easy to implement.

Cool. I love these kinds of tools. I've saved it into my Instapaper for later reading.

It has to be better than all these bird guts and tea leaves...

I had an idea for a fake SI that searched the internet based on keywords, then used actual conversations of real people modified by the present context, kinda like a parrot bot.

Too bad I'm a throwback, and am likely thinking of something that everyone else already knows about and uses.
