Stuck? Just Ask Yourself "What Happens Next?"

If its too sandboxy, I'm not sure where or how to start!

When I get stuck in "analysis paralysis" due to more than 7 items on the menu of options... I have a fallback I'll share here:

Just ask yourself "what happens next?" because that's all that really matters to the story.

I think off it as just placing one foot in front of the next and focusing on my feet and where I am stepping rather than eyes to the horizon or eyes to the sky.

Let me know if you try this and if it works for you.

I've come to think that the entire point of GMing is the be able to ask that question at the table, and help the players answer it.

I think she meant a decision making process as a player.

I totally agree regarding a player’s POV. But she has a good point that it depends on the player type and their trust in the GM.
Pointing the question out as a GM to the players may be a great move, but would be very direct, out-of-game and could destroy the level of immersion.
Unless you pointed this out by an NPC… but then it would need to be on a different level than „most fun for the players“. Maybe „most rewarding for the PC“ or rather „the most heroic action“.
