What generators should we put in the sidebar?

The new version of Campaign Logger has a customizable generator sidebar.

This sidebar gives you single-tap trigger of a generator.

The new Generator Service lets you build unlimited generators using your handy library of tables or from scratch using your own data.

You can then add these custom generators to your sidebar in vNext.

So, what generators would you like to see "out of the box" default from us?

We have 3 Line NPCs, 3 Line Villages, Town Rumours, and Encounter Seeds, to name a few possibilities.

What would you like to see?

Any will do, as long as we are able to not only add, but take them away, or rename them. Because for example, town rumours could be renamed to town rumours(fantasy) so that we can add town rumours(sci-fi) or city rumours(supers) on our own, for example. It would be great also to be able to edit them all, as I'll probably translate them for my group.

For me, the following types would probably be the most useful generators to have constantly available:
  • character name generator (but since names are culture-specific, the default install should feel generic and possibly also produce bynames that would fit most settings)
  • location name generators (settlements, streets, establishments, wilderness features)
  • character descriptions (with quirk, mannerism and voice acting cues to help with NPC presentation)
  • encounter seeds (random random encounters with variable dispositions and goals for the encountered entities)
  • plot hooks (side quest ideas to flesh out)
  • travel, rest and everyday events (to add variation to travel montages, camping and downtime)
  • location details (variation for encounter areas and combat environments)
  • weather (typical weather conditions and optionally some rarer phenomena)
  • enemy tactics (to add variation to run-of-the-mill fights)
  • treasure and loot randomization (colorful details for mundane valuables and scrap)
But indeed customization is a must: users should be able to modify the default list and add their own favorite generators.

Good feedback. @JochenL Any ideas on how make our built-in generators customizable? At the least, deletable. We could put the source for most in the repo for GMs to take and modify as desired.

I have an idea of how to make them removable.

Ok, no problem. I'm thinking we stick to 5 built-in generators to get the ball rolling. In the generators section, we can then link to a tutorial and resources thread on CC.

Now that I thought a little more about it, I have another idea. Having a repo of them made me think of being able to customize which ones of the ones I got appear in each campaign. So instead of deleting them, being able to decide the entries that appear on that list seems a better match for how it should work.

Cool beans @Gedece. You can almost do that right now.

See this post for more detail.

The one piece not yet added is making custom generators appear in the sidebar per campaign.

Cheers.

That's an excellent idea indeed! Different generators for different campaigns makes very much sense.
