We want to invite you to vote for the next steps we will take!

Option 1: Mobile Apps
Currently the mobile apps are not available in the app stores as they need an overhaul to comply with GDPR guidelines. Besides that they are a good chunk of features behind the web app. Voting for this option means we'll focus this fall on feature parity between web app and mobile and returning the apps to the app stores.

Option 2: Campaigning
Campaigning adds log bundling, shared tagging among bundled logs, reference entries for tags (with a much larger character count), and allows GMs (aka subscribers) to invite players (free of charge) to CL and have their own character diary associated with a campaign. Players will be able to participate in tag sharing (if allowed to) and reference entries will have public and private parts.

Voting for this options means we'll focus this fall on bringing new features to the web app.

What would you prefer? Option 1 or Option 2? Use the voting widget at the top to cast your vote.

Thank you.

Thankfully I have the windows app still, even though its a bit behind, though I find myself using it 80% of the time during sessions rather then the web app.. and really only jumping on to the web app just to "play" with the new features.

While I am super excited for campaigning, I had to vote for option 1, as I feel like completely disregarding the non-web apps is not good and will only further increase the hassle to get it up to speed once we go about it, ideally I would love for us to focus on option 2 but to also allot a small amount of time to the mobile app so that we are not completely stepping away from it... basically option 2 from my perspective is just doing what we already have been doing.

Option 2 would allow CL to become a tool I use with my players, instead of something that helps only me. I've been shopping around to find a campaign wiki/log/site option we can use collaboratively for my new campaign, but Option 2 would potentially solve that problem.

If Option 2 could be expanded to include offline functionality into the web app (a progressive web app), that could solve both problems: there'd be no need for duplicating feature development on platform-specific apps, as the web app would function offline on those devices with all the current features, and it would update the server later when it's online again. It's just a question of whether enough of the functionality can be made client-side rather than server-side.

I like your thoughts on it, and totally agree! I like the idea of mobile app development, especially if it could finally sync in an integrated manner, but more development on what we currently have as it can be used to further empower its use in my gaming.

The new features of the webapp would greatly impact my campaign in such a positive way. I have all my players viewing the different streams I have set up (summaries, treasure, curses, house rules etc.) and they love it. The features listed above would make it an even better experience for my players to better interact and keep everything in CL. We'll most everything, my players use DNDBEYOND for their character sheets, but that is limited.

CL would allow them to seemlessly chronicle their journey as players and greatly augment what I've built in CL. I'm all in for option 2 webapp.
Especially if there is a journal feature that shares tags and is viewable by the DM and Players in a ongoing campaign.

The Reference sheets for DM's would be amazing. I like the forced character limit for log entries as the really makes me choose my words carefully, but would like a option to write longer unlimited reference logs for lore, history, stat blocks, in game letters, handouts, maybe images of monsters locations etc for further DM inspiration.
I haven't used the app all that much, due to lack of syncing and less features.

Thank you so much for polling the community and all the hard work you do!

When you mention Mobile Apps, I assume that also means the Windows app? I would really love to see that with the same features as the web app, as I find a desktop application far more easy to use than a web based one (of course, if the login form for the web version would have allowed me to save my password that would have helped a lot, looking up my password every time I wish to use it is just annoying, and is actually a driving factor to REALLY prefer the desktop app)

#2 sounds *super* tempting... but I really want my desktop an mobile apps to have feature parity. In particular, there's a number of minor annoyances that were removed from the web app specifically as a result of my suggestions... so it really sucks that, if I want to use the desktop version (which I usually do, as during game time my browser windows are all full of tabs open to important information or lookups, and changing tabs for every note is a little painful), I'm back to dealing with all those old little annoyances again.

Have chrome save your password. Problem solved. :) I hope that helps. I hate it when a browser won't let me remember a password too. Click the key in the address bar and have chrome remember the password after you log in. If the remember password pop up doesn't work for you.

I would love the parity as well. I've never used the desktop or android app to full effect because it doesn't sync with my webversion. When I have a idea I jot it down in the webapp, and its there when Im planning through the week. I've used the Json files to import my web entries back and forth, but quickly found that tedious which is why I just use the webapp solely now.

A sync process would be great. I can have only the tabs open that I need when I DM and a separate app to toggle between. I see that benefit as well.

One day we'll have it all!

Great perspectives everyone!

Honestly I am afraid that we are stepping away from the non-web apps completely, and that this thread is going to be used for merit to discontinue the windows and mobile apps.

Me: We already have a coffin, feel free to hammer those nails in guys!
Others: But the Nails look soo good, that coffin cant be for the other apps.

We can get both things by just picking option 1, option 2 is just doing option 1 without the mobile and windows apps.

Note that this poll is not an either/or proposition. It's just about what we focus on next. Both options seemed equally compelling to @JochenL and I, so we wanted your input.

Once we've tackled Option 1 or Option 2, we'll look again at our priorities and what folks are requesting.

The apps (mobile and desktop) are a very important part of our roadmap. GDPR set up back a bit, as compliance is complicated, which pushed back our mobile parity timeline.

But fear not. Apps and Campaigning are both very important to us.

Reference entries tags and players invite would be sooo cool, I voted 2 !! I'm on the old side that think a mobile is nice to phone with, but not to read at (too small characters) ;)
I'm joking about mobile but not about my vote !

Version parity seems essential for uniformity and compatibility in the community. Also on the same topic, is there any chance of getting a standalone desktop client for those of us on Linux or Win7?

Win7 is nearly done. Linux and macOS X are a possiblity, but not currently planned.

I voted for #1 as I like to use my down time when out and about for planning and trying to use the full website on a mobile phone sucks when I'm in a place that even has an internet connection. In some places I can't even get phone service much less the internet.
