WoA Exclusive: Treasure As Your Plot Compass

The only issue with treasure as plot devices, and I already see it within the game. There isn't anything to buy with the gold and riches you reward. in 5e, magic isn't supposed to be bought and sold like common goods and what else really is there? The stronghold ideas from earlier editions have not been refreshed to my knowledge so what does a party do with a dragons treasure hoard worth several hundred thousand gold? You need to find ways for them to redistribute it and then you can really upset economies with that being infused into a smaller town etc. If there were really good options to siphon the funds from the players that made sense then treasure hoards would be far easier to put in to the game. At least... for me.

@Justin_Giver Today's newsletter is inspired by your post above!
Thank you. Loved the info. Always read it at first break and always gets me inspired to get through the day and do some dnd prep. I think i'm going to go back to 1 and 2e and pull out some economies from there.. While not using gold as xp any more.. I think alot of what you have said rings true.. you need an economy to somewhat work and make sense or its just numbers and accounting which we want to avoid and it doesn't feel alive.

Economy and getting the deck of many things into the campaign are my next goals, along with of course major plot development at this time.. things converging and coming together really nicely. So glad I have the CL as a back bone to help keep it all straight.

Do you keep all your daily email tips in a source that can easily be captured and then read? It would be great to have a problem, search it and see if answers are to be found.

We've got three irons in the fire.

First is annual PDF compilations. I need to catch-up there for 2022 and 2023.

Which brings me to the second iron. Those compilations are time-consuming to produce. So I'm noodling on the best way to add them into Campaign Logger as a shared campaign for Silver+ Wizards of Adventure. Since last year, I write the newsletter in CL anyway.

I've started labelling articles by year and month for publication. And each article has a Tag as the category. I think next I need to add labels for Topic => that would them mirror the website and the PDF compilations.

However, before I pull the trigger and start backfilling past newsletter issues, I want to think more on if any additional Labels or actions are needed.

Suggestions are welcome!

Third iron is, @JochenL has been training Zorgon on the article archives. He's tackling them by tag on the website. This work is underway. It's a bit tricky training AI on this as we'd like specific output (such as article title and URL citation) and quality. This is a long-burn work in progress.

Awesome. I keep trying to set rules in my email to simply sort all John four emails into a box.. sadly for some reason it doesn't always work. Things we would like are far different then things needed and if we all already have your emails, then it would seem WE have the solution to this issue as much as you can create it. Thanks for being awesome. Stay warm.. its cold out there.
