Anybody considering #dungeon23?

I'm curious to learn if anyone is considering taking on the dungeon23 challenge. What do you think of the idea? Is there any value in this kind of exercise?

It seems like Campaign Logger might be a good way to keep a monster like this organized.

I would love to participate. But one room per day would require dropping something else. Sigh.

But maybe a community effort where we take turns would enable more people to participate.
Combined with the 5RD approach, we could do 52 sub-dungeons, one per week.
With a week having 7 days, we have 2 extra days.
One day for a Room 0 connecting the 5RD to a previous 5RD.
An additional day for Room X (a sidequest, a bonus, a secret).
  • Sunday: Room 0: Connection
  • Monday: Room 1: Entrance & Guardian
  • Tuesday: Room 2: Puzzle or Roleplaying Challenge
  • Wednesday: Room X: Sidequest (whatever this may be)
  • Thursday: Room 3: Trick or Setback
  • Friday: Room 4: Climax, Big Battle, Conflict
  • Saturday: Room 5: Reward, Revelation, Plot Twist
So, each participant takes a full week of seven days, one 5RD.
Then the next one attaches their 5RD, etc.

From my past experience in writing exercises - yes, there is a lot of value to something like this - both in the process, the resulting writing, and the proof to yourself that you can accomplish something of that scale without monumental effort.

You create a habit that (in the end) nets you more of what you're looking for (in this case it would be more prepped content to mine/run) ...
Now, if you don't need a megadungeon of 52 levels of 7 rooms each ... then it becomes "what do you need 365 of?"
NPCs? Villagers? Monsters? Encounter Locations? Treasures? Items? New Spells?

Next mix in "what is fun to make/write?"
Who wants 365 days of drudgery or misery?
Make a list of the things you'd like to have lots more of for your game, number the list, and roll dice to pick which one to make each day.
Surprise yourself.

I once challenged myself to journal every day for a year. It ended up being two.
I wondered if I could complete National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and even though I didn't edit and publish that year's result... I proved to myself I could sit down and will 50,000+ words of a story into being on a deadline.

So the question could be "do I commit myself to having 365 bits of fun for the next year?"
If so - then where do you want to end up?
What 365 steps between now, and then, would it take to get there?

I'm planning to participate, but I know it won't be daily. It will just be something in my rotation of things to do.

@ExileInParadise - that's a great idea, and it will probably be how I will approach it.

I will regret mentioning this when I crash and burn later this week, but... I created a Wordpress site to archive what I'm calling "Vast23" which is my take on #space23 or #dungeon23. You can laugh at me later! :)

Vast23 - https://vast23.wordpress.com/

I'd still be interested in ways to leverage Campaign Logger to keep track of this project. I will be using the results in my on-going Starfinder campaign, so it would be good to have the information readilly accessible. Wordpress is not the best cross-referencer on the planet!

Campaign Logger can output stuff as a stream / feed ... maybe there's a way to hook that up into your wordpress?
Then you could build in Campaign Logger and have it auto-tracked as wordpress posts.
@JochenL is this a do-able thing?

I started laying down the sketch of eXiSTeNCe (my own "from scratch" RPG) in 2014 under the name “A System I'm Making Up” (ASIMU) which became KAIROS shortly after for many years of ad-hoc development as real life job changes, hurricane Harvey and helping my brother rebuild, the internet, and everything else got in the way of finishing even a draft of the “complete” game I envisioned.

So that leads me to 2023 and the idea of #dungeon23 as a push to finish organizing and drafting the piled mess that is my current game system… spanned across a 3-ring binder of pages, hard drive notes and files, a Joplin electronic notebook, and this site.

The approach will be to sequentially work from top to bottom of my index / table of contents page, reviewing and improving whatever has been posted before, if anything, or drafting the start of all of the missing pieces that I have scattered around into the site so those broken links will stop haunting me.

And, you are welcome to follow along with RSS using the subscribe option.

I will be tracking my progress by linking each page as I review/draft it in the main site to the matching topic here in this index:
https://armageddonmoon.com/existence:dungeon23

For example:
JAN 01 Setting (for players)
https://armageddonmoon.com/salvage_space:setting
Jan 02 Creating Settings (for guides)
https://armageddonmoon.com/existence:creating_settings

I seem unable to find the subscribe option. The gear menu just brings up an empty Page Tools menu...
