Hello.
I am accessing from Japan. mash0728. I am a Japanese speaker and basically post to English-speaking countries with the help of machine translation. Please forgive me if this is a strange sentence post.
I started playing TTRPG again at the end of last year when Dungeons & Dragons was published again in Japan, and I'm enjoying playing a lot more now that the online session environment has been improved. I've found that I can expand my campaign quite a bit by playing for two hours at a time once a week, and with VTT, it's a strong advantage to be able to go back to the environment I was in when I stopped when I restarted.
5e has a wealth of English-language material, which is great. I've bought various sourcebooks and data for bundles and sales, and it's a drowning amount.
I've also developed a desire to do my own unique campaign. I'm thinking that I could mix my original worldview with the adventure modules on the market and see what happens. It would be good to try out the campaign logger (I tried typing in Japanese and found that it didn't seem to be that much of a problem).

Hi everyone,
I'm from Hungary, Europe. I've been playing since 1996 and reading the RPT since - hmmm, maybe - 2000, and of course, I tried a lot of RPGs. And I tried some campaign manager program, but this one seems very user friendly. Thanks!

Lupus Fortis is the name my Ars Magica character has been given upon successful completion of his gauntlet certamen against his master the archmage Stentorius ex Tremere. My early steps in gaming go back to the earlier mid-80s (can't even remember exactly, LOL), mostly D&D in various editions, but also Ars Magica and a few others. Even though I love to be a player, at the moment I am preparing to GM for some friends of old. Since they know me well, they will not be surprised to find out my plan includes "something with tentacles" ...

Hello. I'm Herb and go by PulpHerb to highlight my writing ambitions. I currently live in Stone Mountain, GA.

I've been playing since Christmas week 1977 when I got a Holmes basic book and Gamma World boxed set with Christmas money (they were sold out of Holmes boxed sets and dice sets so I bought GW for the dice) and have been a DM since my very first game.

These days the biggies I will try to get running (currently I'm running nothing but playing 5e) are some version of older D&D, usually ACKs, Cypher, or GURPS with some RQ on the side. Without a doubt my favorite world is Glorantha followed by Jorune.

My favorite Platonic solid is the dodecahedron as it contains the secrets of the universe, at least according to Pythagoras. My favorite dice are a purple set of standard polyhedrons with a cat for the ones.

Hey everyone, name is Robb! I go by Ready To Role since that's my somewhat inactive website/youtube relating to tabletop gaming. I haven't updated much recently but intend to get back to it.

I've been playing TTRPGs since I was a small lad. Now a much older and larger lad, I DM games for my wife and friends. I mostly stick to fantasy but also really enjoyed recently running Tales from the Loop for my group.

I run nearly entirely homebrew; the few prewritten adventures I've run didn't feel right, and while my group and I enjoyed them I was asked to return to my own settings which I've gladly done. I find the prep and world creation to be nearly as fulfilling as actually sitting down and playing so I take any chance I get to work on my world.

Besides RPGs, I also love board games, Warhammer/other wargames, Magic the Gathering, and play a few musical instruments. Hope to chat with some of you and absorb/share some knowledge!

Welcome Robb!

What systems are your homebrew rules closest too?
Thanks for the welcome!

Currently I am running my campaign with the 5e ruleset with some minor tweaks since that's what I found was easiest to introduce two new players to, but in the past it's mostly been whatever some version of 3.5/5e/retroclone with more substantial changes 😅 Nowadays I spend more time homebrewing settings or magic items than rules since, if I'm honest, my players never seemed to mind one ruleset or another and if they want something specific I work with them to make it work in the rules.

All that said, I do want to create my own system some day. I've sat down and tried but I've never had a good enough vision that would have made it different than the myriad of other fantasy systems out there so I never completed one. Closest I've come recently is for a rules-lite system that I may revisit in the future.

I always respect those creating their own systems. Alas I've given up that ideal, but I love digging into various systems for bits and pieces I can steal and incorporate into games I'm playing. It's great you have a group that doesn't mind mind system changes, it makes trying out new mechanics fun.

Once again, welcome to the group!

Hello all,

I'm Richard, originally from the UK, then moving to Brunei and now working in Malaysia.

I started playing in the early '80's with 1E, kept going through 2E, buying nearly everything TSR produced (I was young and single :) ), and 3/3.5 E. Age, work and 4E put a damper on playing, but I never stopped world building. 5E rekindled my interest, and along with starting to DM a D&D activity at school, I really enjoyed the new age of D&D.

In recent years though I have been steadily turned off "optimisation" and the big push from some influencers to show how to maximise damage output, with seemingly random multiclassing and exploiting ill-conceived rules from Wizards. As if D&D is a video game and killing things is the only way to advance (though in 5E now-a-days it might actually be).

I now am feeling very nostalgic, and going back to my RP roots. I have more than enough material, in terms of rulebooks and adventures, to keep my DMing going forever. I also find BF-RPG to be a great version of original D&D, cleaning up a lot of rules and having the advantage of being free (I now have a family and LOTS of commitments :) ).

I loved the idea of a 5-room dungeon as soon as I heard it and have enjoyed reading all Johnn's advice since.

Welcome Richard!

Have you looked at Dungeon Crawl Classics? Not wanting to bump you off BF-RPG. DCC oozes with flavour, and there's some good mechanics to steal, like the magic system, if you're looking for mechanic flavour ideas.

Welcome Richard! Personally I'm also a big fan of BFRPG and found the ruleset to be approachable but also open to houseruling (I know that Chris who created it personally houserules his games- even though he wrote the rules!) I haven't played it in a while but still find myself drawn to the system and actually recently backed Reaper Miniature's kickstarter for Dungeon Dweller's RPG as being a good mix of old school sensibility with some modern mechanics and quality of life.

Greetings fellow nerds,

I'm Jens from Germany, back into TTRPG's since 2018 (as the forever GM, but I wouldn't want it any other way).
I started off with 5e, but since graduated to more OSR titles such as ICRPG, OSE and EZD6. I also have been known to run some CoC and Zweihänder.
I am running a long term OSE campaign and if time allows I throw in some short adventures or one-shots in the above mentioned systems.
The 5 Room Dungeon finds itself more frequently into my prep (among other things) and I am excited to give Campaign Logger a try. Up until now I haven't found a decent tool to prep and organize my games (at least none that worked well for me).

Happy to be here, cheers!

Hello and Happy New Year! New to DM'ing, mainly with my kids. I've recently found the Nimble system. It has lots of great combat simplifications. Also, I'm here to find a way to organize my in-game methods. Just learning the rules and memorizing things will help, but I also want to find some ways to just be a little more streamlined!
