Hello all,
I'm Richard, originally from the UK, then moving to Brunei and now working in Malaysia.
I started playing in the early '80's with 1E, kept going through 2E, buying nearly everything TSR produced (I was young and single
), and 3/3.5 E. Age, work and 4E put a damper on playing, but I never stopped world building. 5E rekindled my interest, and along with starting to DM a D&D activity at school, I really enjoyed the new age of D&D.
In recent years though I have been steadily turned off "optimisation" and the big push from some influencers to show how to maximise damage output, with seemingly random multiclassing and exploiting ill-conceived rules from Wizards. As if D&D is a video game and killing things is the only way to advance (though in 5E now-a-days it might actually be).
I now am feeling very nostalgic, and going back to my RP roots. I have more than enough material, in terms of rulebooks and adventures, to keep my DMing going forever. I also find BF-RPG to be a great version of original D&D, cleaning up a lot of rules and having the advantage of being free (I now have a family and LOTS of commitments
).
I loved the idea of a 5-room dungeon as soon as I heard it and have enjoyed reading all Johnn's advice since.
